I have been doing exactly that for 40 years ;) I am a people pleaser ( again likely from desperately wanting to fit in) but i like to do that and yes it is not only energy depletive it can also backfire when certain individuals use your kindness for their own selfish gains, this upsets me somewhat.. I am trying to find a balance but not doing very well! lol... Started to try to create boundaries which in turn upsets some people and that effects me... Damned if you do , damned if you dont! lol but i do think it is important to somehow learn to create certain boundaries as many people will take advantage... I have a hard time putting myself in the shoes of such an individual hence why i have been a target for many over the years... but despite the many that do take advantage i try to focus on the good experiences. :)

I'm the opposite--I'm perfectly happy with my own weirdness and never ever want to try to 'fit in'. I bring a unique lucidity and quirkiness with me wherever I go.

Im glad! :) Thats something i am also having to learn. Accepting my own weirdness and quirkiness. I suppose because of having a late preliminary DX up to that point i was trying to fill the expectations of society without fully embracing myself which caused soo much stress , especially when you know you are different from everyone else but have no clue as to why! Everyday am finding things from others on the spectrum that were mutually thought as common place or maybe thought as a bit too weird to air only to find we share very similar experiences ... As i am also talking to another aspie off site and many experiences are identical which up to this point was afraid to air in fear of judgment. So not only is it helping me but has also helped them and the benefit is finally feeling not so 'Alien' and there are people that do truly understand. Its been a 40 year journey of confusion, its only now my true journey seems to be just starting. :)

I've had enough of society. I'm going to become a society-hermit.

^You're welcome! Ironically, if you watch all forty-two episodes of Clannad, that song becomes one of the saddest.
[Do you mind spoilers at all? Here's the very condensed version.]

I wonder if I can even get this done on time... I've spent the last 2 weeks focusing on how right in the head I am that I've neglected what I promised...

there is something to be said for lemon meringue pie, mashed potato, and fried chicken, after standing around for several hours in the inappropriately harsh february sun, and occasionally sanding a rusted handrail, chiseling and smoothing out imperfections on the rail and cleaning the stone where it meets the beams. sometimes trying to start a small generator, succeeding on the third pull.

i liked my job because it gave me a sense of purpose, a feeling of contributing to something larger than myself and having others appreciate what i do. i had tasks that needed to be done, rarely was i standing around looking for something.

being a handyman's apprentice does offer that sense of contribution most of the time, i get to help make people's houses look and function better, and i get a glimpse of how the really affluent people here live. but rarely is there the same sense of having tasks or urgency that i had in the restaurant.

not sure if i want it.

my uncle's girlfriend has a spare bedroom, open for "when i need to crash". there's an airbnb rental room, occupied, that makes enough to pay the rent. there's a good view of the town, albeit somewhat obscured by trees. lots of beanbag "chairs", fake fur rugs, she seems to like me more than the rest of his nephews. or nieces.
