Interesting...

However, I doubt I would be able to handle an actual explosion, what with even 80 dB being painful and the, "smell," of vitriolized sugar stinging minutes after everyone else is breathing normally.

Since you seem to be on the healthcare track, I recommend the extremely old but now free game Life or Death. It is found here and it is a rather realistic simulation of what happens during all sorts of nauseating operations. Also, it was written by a doctor.

I've seen two knee replacement surgeries (video streamed live from a hospital) and part of a spine surgery.
