In 1984, there was a movie called Teachers with Nick Nolte. In this movie, there's a scene in the teacher's lounge where one teacher asks another, "how do you spell 'tardy'?" Another teacher, I don't know if it was Nolte's character replies, "L-A-T-E"

I don't know if the director or the writer were just trying to be funny or a dick but it wasn't funny. Unless maybe it was to show that morons are in our schools teaching our kids. I know it's an extreme example but it's "TARDY". Sound it out!

Just wondering if anyone else here feels like education is lacking? Kids not being able to spell, people not using proper grammar and so on. Do you think we might be looking at the birth of a whole new language, not too dissimilar from what we know but have numbers replace letters, abridged words and the use of the "too", "two" and "to" becoming one interchangeable word?

The problem teachers face is a lack of support in the classroom. I think it's great that mainstream schools are all about inclusion now but they've gone about it in the wrong way. A teacher who already has a class of thirty children now has the added pressure of teaching children with additional support needs with virtually no back up.

My son is starting mainstream school in August and may get a support teacher. It isn't guaranteed that he'll get that extra help which means it's left to the class teacher to spread herself very thin!
