... No I was not being prosecuted

I went a a trip with my school to see how the court proceedings work (Well, the people who do Law were, I went just for my own curiosity)

I must say it was one of the most fascinating things I've ever been to, it was really interesting and intriguing (hope I spelt that right) to listen to. Just listening to both sides of the argument and the amount of detail both sides went into was amazing.

However the bit that I seen today (this particular case has been going on a week I think) was the close of the defence's case and then a summary from each the two sides (defence and prosecution - if you don't know) they took about 3 hours combined  and listening to them intensely for soo long has worn me out completely but it was most definitely worth it :)

The verdict for this case is on Thursday and the two teacher who accompanied us are hoping to get special permission to take us back so that we can see the verdict of the case.

Also I'm just curious to see if anyone has been to the court as part of a jury, a witness, or even a victim or even been charged with something which resulted in it being taken to court. Responses wil be much appreciated.

(If some people are wondering why I haven't talked about the details of the case, it's because I'm not actually allowed to until it's over I think).

I am taking paralegal studies in college and I might be doing my practicum part of the course at the courthouse in Red Deer.

It took the jury over a day but eventually the defendant was found guilty.

Has nobody been on a jury or to court before? Or can nobody be bothered to post? :?

If you're in court as a result of your own actions you're not really focused on people watching. The only other time I've been in a court house was for jury duty and I never even got called to the selection process. I spent a few hours in the waiting room perusing the weird books, reading about alligators and sh*t, I ate a burrito at one point and took a 3 hour nap.

I can't say it was really a bad day, but all I learned about really was alligators.

My primary school took us on a visit to a court room, but we didn't actually see any trials. Instead, we acted out a fake trial, with someone who worked there telling us what would happen and what to do next. It was really fun. I had to be a lawyer arguing that my defendant didn't steal a cardigan. :D

My mum used to work as a court clerk.

As far as I know in the U.S. the only people who are not allowed to talk about a case that hasn’t been resolved are the jury members. The only other exception would be a closed court case where the judge orders the case to be tried without spectators, in which case you would not be allowed in either. Are you not in the United States?
