Can anyone relate to the following scene?



Catweazle: Ooagh ... people!
Edward: What’s wrong with people?
Catweazle: They make my head buzz!
Edward: It’s only because you’re not used to them.
Catweazle: No. And do not want to be.
Edward: You’re used to me though aren’t you?
Catweazle: Hm?
Edward: So what do you think of me then?
Catweazle: Think of you? But ... you are there!
Edward: Yes, but when I’m not there?
Catweazle: Weh ... then I do not think of you!
Edward: You’re alone too much. It’s not good to be alone.
Catweazle: I lived alone in my own time.
Edward: This is your own time! Can’t you see? Here and now!
Catweazle: Here and now I am; there and then I want to be.
Edward: But it’s a dream, Catweazle.
Catweazle: Nettleface. This is the dream. And soon I hope to wake.

This is from the Catweazle TV series filmed in 1969 about an 11th century wizard who accidentally travels into the future.

i dont do the whole dream/reality swap.

dreams are dreams, reality is reality, it makes no sense to swap them around just to be weird.

Edward- "It's not good to be alone."

Me- Well, why the f**k not?!

the only real kind of real fantasy
illusions are a common thing
I try to live in dreams
it seems as if it's meant to be.

That used to be my favourite TV Show when I was a kid ...

his toad's name was "Kuehlwalda" ?

the funniest show was when he first saw a light bulb ( Elektricktrick)

Edward: Interesting?
Henriksson: Well, I do find most things interesting.

Henriksson: Perhaps not for you. I like solitude.
Edward: Don't you feel alone?
Henriksson: Well, moderation is a virtue, as the Swedish saying goes.
*Henriksson leaves the room, tired of talking*

I find one of the funniest parts to be when he is crawling on the floor of the local museum looking for his toad and finds it under the screaming woman.

I also like the creative insults he spews.

Another funny episode is when he puts a truth spell on the Skinner woman and she suddenly goes hysterical during breakfast and chucks a glass across the room.

I just 'faintly' remember these 2 episodes ...

I recall he was once looking for his toad everywhere...

It is so long ago I must have been between 9 and 12 years old back then....

one show that is somewhat stuck is when "Catweazle" smelled really bad and I think the boy was hiding him and someone was wondering about the stench?

I always loved the part when he came out of the water and there was this mist all around him ...

did he not go back into the water again at the end?

Yes. That was in the first couple of episodes. He gets a bath.

Yes, in the last episode he immerses himself in the lake and starts to fade away, back to the 11th century.

I'm planning on visiting the hamlet where the series was shot, this weekend.

Catweazle took place in Surrey, England.




Some are, but if you do a search for it on itv.com, you can watch 13 episodes.



Yes, people seem fascinated by such characters. They still cause offence, but in real life they'd probably get beaten up and fired very frequently.


Here's the scene I found where Catweazle spews the most creative insults:



Catweazle, having lost his witch knife, Adamcos, believes he will soon die and has been continually complaining, thinking his blood is turning to ice. Unable to convince him there’s nothing wrong with him, Edward has an idea.

Edward: Here. Have some brandy.
Catweazle: [examines glass suspiciously] Tis a magic potion?
Edward: Oh yes. Now drink it down fast. It’ll warm you up.
Catweazle: [drinks then sits quietly]
Catweazle: [clutching throat, walks across the room, freaking out]
Edward: Don’t make such a fuss.
Catweazle: Why it burns, it burns!
Edward: I thought it would do the trick.
Catweazle: Thou white-legged worm!
Edward: That’s more like it!
Catweazle: Thou poo-legged beetle!
Edward: Anything else?
Catweazle: Thou wry-necked trash-mongering double-tongue swaggering huff-snuff!
Edward: [nods] Ten out of ten!

... Catweazle soon starts complaining again.

Catweazle: I am doomed!
Edward: Oh, have some more brandy. [goes to pour brandy]
Catweazle: Thou art a demon sent from hell to plague me!
Edward: No I’m not. Can’t you see? I’m only trying to help you. Can’t you see that?
Catweazle: [Fizzes]
Edward: We’ll find Adamcos. I promise.

No, I'm not familiar with them, but I know how weird it can be to watch dubbed dialogue.
