we're not really READY!

Don't make me stop everything I'm doing, and then continue to fool around for thirty minutes while I wait for us to actually leave, like you said we were ready to do!

:x

It happens to me constantly and I HATE it!

Whenever I say, "I'm ready to go now," I mean, "I'm ready to go now."
As in, RIGHT now, this instant, I'm walking out the door as I speak.

I don't see why so many people say, "I'm ready to go," when they SHOULD say, "I will be ready to go in about thirty minutes," or even better, finish the stuff that they have to do, and THEN when they are finally ready, say, "I'm ready to go."

It must be some form of cognitive dissonance. They know they're not ready, but that they should be ready, and so compensate by announcing that they are ready, although they're not.

People--go figure.

It's almost as bad as when people are chronically late. I have family members like this (who shall remain nameless lest they be reading this screed). If it is agreed that we'll meet at 2pm for some holiday, they'll show up between 3-3:30pm. And always with some excuse, from the mundane ("I had diarrhea") to the downright creative ("The marshmallows on the candied yams caught on fire"). Meantime, the rest of us are sitting around waiting while everything else gets cold or dries out from trying to keep it warm. Grrr...:x

My parents do this all the time. Also, my father makes a big fuss about leaving at a certain time, and how people had better be ready. My brothers and I are ready to walk out the front door before the given time, and we're kept waiting for at least half an hour.

I can see this from both sides. Being a parent of a child with AS, i need to tell him we are ready to go to give him that extra time for us to finish getting ready because he HAS to finish what he is doing or finding a stopping point. Most of the time he's off (like say a video game) by the time we are ready and sometimes we are ready and he is not. Occassionally, he will actually be ready and we are still trying to finish up getting ready and out the door. This makes him anxious and he continually asks if we can go now. On the other hand, bf does this to me and it makes me pace around waiting for him and it drives me insane. He does not need to wait for me to finish crap up. I usually get right off or stop what i am doing to go, but when he tells me let's go, he still has to find some socks, put his shoes on and once in a while, he'll ask are you ready, i get myself ready and ready to go and hear he's in the shower! Daggone it!

ARGH. i cannot express my loathing for this!! !!
my mother has delayed things by several hours.....multiple times. i'm serious. i HATE it. and she slows down when you "irritate" her by asking her to hurry up.
why is it so hard to do everything beforehand?!?!

That is annoying. It's as if they also have "executive dysfunction." Actually I think they do also.

this really annoys me the should be ready when they go to do the door but they forget something or they just want to watch something on tv for a little bit

I think everyone should be ready before actually telling anyone they are leaving. That means everything is off and they made sure of that and they also made sure they have everything they need, they have already went to the bathroom to see if they had to go. But don't tell me we are leaving and then go "Oh we'll leave after this show ends."
