Yes, very much so. Currently we have three ball pythons, a carpet python, a blood python, a burmese python, and a leucistic texas rat snake (the odd man out). My daughter has a leopard gecko as well. Red tail boas are nice snakes to have... they generally have a nice disposition and even if they do reach ten feet, they are still easy enough to handle. A friend of mine kept boas for years. I tend to stick to pythons. I have been wanting a boelens python for years now. They are (unrealistically) on the top of my snake wish list. I have so many that I want to get... In time, in time... Heh. They are addictive.

They certainly can be feisty. The blood (Vladdy) is tame now... he was not when we brought him home. He once bit me and hung on... I picked up my hand and he came up with me. I laughed myself silly. I've never had a snake do that before or since... But we had an odd bonding experience with that blood. When we got him, he had mites. We treated him and cleared the mites, and discovered he had a respiratory infection, so we had to tube him and inject his meds for a week. My husband says he is a smart snake and trusts us because of that. Now Vladdy is a great lap snake. He's not at all aggressive.

Boelens are beautiful. I guess they are nearly impossible to successfully breed though. If I was a breeder... heh... that would be like a dare to me.

my snake has done a similar thing to me. XD. he mistook my hand for a rodent, and latched on. XD. it hurt extra bad because he grabbed a nerve and was squeezing at the same time, when i got him off, the blood squirted out in a jet!
and that's an awesome experience, my mom knew this woman who had a red tailed boa, and it got sick, so she had to give it shots as well. but her snake ended up hating her, and only her, for the rest of it's life. XD she gave it away and it liked it's new owners. XD

they look like a carpet python/rainbow python, sort of. are they related to carpets??

He got you on a nerve? Unpleasant! None of mine have ever made me gush blood... your snake must have excellent aim. Good for him.

We did not have to give him shots... we had to tube his throat and inject the meds deep enough to get him to swallow it. Not so fun, but I would prefer that to having to give shots, I think. I can see that happening, the snake not being fond of your mom's friend after all of that. Boas are smart and remember things like that. I was afraid that would happen with Vlad... I am lucky it did not.

As for the boelens... They tend to be clumped into morelia and carpets are as well. So I suppose they are related... The whole morelia thing confuses and fascinates me though. Snakes, particularly pythons, are one of my obsessions... I'm fighting the urge to go on a morelia tangent right now. Heh.

I am curious, so pardon me while I spew out a series of questions... I was wondering how old your snake is, how long you have had him, what his name is, if you happen to have any pictures of him... Also I was wondering the same about your beardie. I have a soft spot for them as well. I kept one once and hope to have more in the future. They are fascinating animals as well, yes? I always found it amusing... the way beardies regard people. They crack me up with that head tilt they do... they seem almost regal to me...

yes, 'twas quite unpleasant! XD. you'd think he has nice aim, but he always gets his dinner on the rump. XD
oh really? ouch, that must be hard having the poor guy squirm and all :(. boids do have excellent memory, it seems. my ball has good memory too. he definately destinguishes between people he knows and doesnt know. if i ever take him out to show people (i took him to a police station, once, to show the cops), he always crawls back to me.
is his full name vladmir?

whats a morelia? if you dont mind me asking, im not too keen on the scientific names :). i know. i wouldnt say i am obsessed at the moment, although i went through years of fervent obsession with reptiles. XD. but i still adore them a LOT. the boids are my favourites. :D

haha, it's fine. :) um i actually dont know how old he is. he is wild caught, and i got him when he was around 28 inches long. now he is 36 (would be 37 but he is missing the tip of his tail. he was pretty scarred up when i got him) he's probably maybe.....5 years old? ive had him for around 4 and a half, i suppose. i havent really been keeping track. hes quite small, apparently wild males are very small...
his official name is Starbuck. but everyone refers to him as "bali" :). i do have pictures. want me to post them? would you mind posting pics of Vlady? how long have you been into herps?
the bearded is i think, around 4 years old? ive had him for a bit less than that. i cant remember. his name is johnny. it's actually funny because i thought he was a male, but he layed eggs! we still think of him as a male though, we say he's gender-confused  they really are cute, arent they? he seems to have so much personality. sometimes he looks happy and sometimes he looks *really* grumpy. ^_^ its funny about my dragon, because since i live in turkey, you cant really find reptiles here. so my dad had one of his colleagues sneak him all the way from belgium in his luggage!
