I'm either in a race or I'm trying to impress someone with my amazing speed because I know I can run extremely fast (in my dream) but I can only get out a few leg pumps or hops.

Of all the dreams I've had, I hate these the most. I wish I'd actually run!

Yes I have had this. Comes in many variations too, a feeling of walking through treacle, impotent power. There's another one I have where I'm fighting someone (not something I do in real life btw) who I could easily beat 'on paper' but I can't throw a punch, feels like the equivalent of your leg pump and hop scenario.

The meaning is pretty obvious really

My dreams like that are usually of being in a car that will barely move.

Ugh, yes.

Dreams where I cannot walk/run/escape and keep tripping over my own feet.

Dreams where my teeth are breaking apart and coming out in pieces.

From what I've read, these are nearly universal among all cultures.

But also, dreams where I'm driving, but from the BACK SEAT and I can't reach the pedals/wheel. Or I'm so far above the vehicle that I can't judge distances, and can't stop.

Not sure where that one comes from. Do ox-cart drivers have such dreams--perhaps where their whips or reins aren't long enough?

I've had a few of them before.

I used to have dreams like that when I was young; often of being chased by something and it was like running through treacle with my legs barely moving. Very frightening; often becoming a nightmare. Finally one day dreams like that stopped - I had a dream that a large monster (ten feet tall and horrible looking) was chasing me. I just stopped, turned and faced it and said something nasty to the monster - I was determined to kill it or be killed, enough was enough, and I punched it in the chest and my fist went right in! The monster instantly died. Never had a dream like it since.

Nowadays I get around by flying in dreams. I "swim" through the air. I like to lay on the ceiling of a room and watch the world and people below. :D

I think this is quite common.

I do it all the time and it is extremely frustrating. If I try to run in dreams it as if I am running through shoulder-high water. My legs move slowly and I eventually start to tilt-foward and try to push off from the ground in order to go foward but it doesn't work. In such dreams it is usually that something/one is chasing me or I am trying to outrun some sort of natural disaster (aka avalanche) and my survival depends on it but I can't get moving!! !! :x It has to be one of the the most frustrating things ever!

I've had a dream where I am running slowly, seemingly in treacle, a couple of times.

I have had that dream--usually running away from bullies. Fortunately, although I couldn't run, they never actually showed up

Probably has to do with keeping the bedclothes tucked in so tight! :D

A lot of folks I know have experienced dreams like that- trying to exert yourself but some force slows you down.

Actually your body secretes a chemical that inhibits your body movements when you sleeps.

To keep you from moving around.

The rare person wh's body fails to do that - I guess they have inimpaired aerobic dreams- but they beat the crap out of the people they sleep with- so its classed as a sleep disorder.

I dont recall having that kind of slo-mo dream, But I do get that other cliche dream- failing in school (even though I havent been a student for ages) and the variant: I drove through a parking lot and clipped a fender and my dad's gonna eat for lunch when he finds out!( my dads been dead for over 20 years).

A lot folks also get that kind of what I call "the mundane anxiety nightmare" (mundane because it doesnt involve monsters and such).

Is there a meaning to it?
Yes-but not very deep nor Fruedian.

My theory is that when you get that kind of dream it means either- you dont have enuff covers on your bed- or - you needed to take a piss.

Both cold- and holding water back- tenses up your body. So your mind creates a story to explain your tenseness. Anxiety also tenses up your body- so your mind generates an engrosssing tale of anxiety to keep you asleep.
