Is anyone else a model here? It seems very non-AS but there are always people who beat the odds.

Modeling is something I thought I would never do. I associated modeling with the people who made my life miserable in school. I couldn't stand anything related to modeling. It was the enemy. Yet as a musician I realized I needed to start modeling to get press shots. My facial expressions were awkward, I had zero coordination, and zero sense of fashion.

Yet I didn't want to quit music so I began contacting alternative photographer's and realized that modeling was actually extremely creative. Bizarre poses were actually kind of cool so the coordination was only a minor stumbling block. Fashion had room for eccentric types too. My facial expressions are still awkward but if I do 200 shots at least 5 of them will look good.

I don't plan on being a model as a career but I can genuinely say that if it wasn't for becoming a model I would not be at this point as a multi-media artist. There are bizarre models with strange ideas everywhere. This is a collage I put together of some great models: http://www.modelmayhem.com/list.php?list_id=209509

We're not all a bunch of shallow idiots. :)

Those are some interesting shots-but there's a difference in art shots and trying to sell clothes.Do you like Cindy Sherman?

Just googled her and I really like her work. A lot of artistic models do get paid for fashion shots. I have several friends who are professional models. They do the artistic shots for fun and the fashion shots for money. Just like a lot of photographer's take shots at weddings for money and take art shots for fun. Of course there are top notch models and photographers that get paid for doing art shots. Not very many but they do exist.

Pretty cool shots. Good alternative modeling. I sometimes see photo shoots on TV and they just, to me, take away from the art of photography. Put some bimbo in a bikini on a beach and take 2,000 pictures. They are not relying on a talent of the eye for photography but sheer dumb luck through numbers that a few of the photos caught a good shot.

Those look like a lot of effort went into create the art at virtually every level from clothing, to makeup, to decorating to post-effects. :thumleft:

Haywire, thanks for the post. I have to admit I have been prejudiced against models, unfairly I admit, but hey I'm human. And your post reminds me that the world is made up of individuals. :D

Also, LOL @ digger! That's what made me check out this thread.

yes-one tends to think of aspiea at outsiders.

Models would be like cheerleaders and football stars- the ultimate NT insiders.

But there is an aspie young lady at another web site who does professional modeling- clothes- not alternative rock albums.

She describes herself as "looking like Kate Winslet". ( socially inept -but a knock out).

You two ought to get in touch.

Go to the "Aspie Hangout", and look for a poster named "Shy Beauty".
Maybe you two exchange professional pointers.

While you're at it- get me a date with her! Lol! ( a girl who looks like Kate Winslet, and needs
special understanding that only a fellow aspie can provide- Im already in love with her).

The wheelchair one is one of my favorites. Since I'm physically disabled myself I like to do these sorts of shots because they help me heal. I had to wear twister cables as a child and I recently did a shoot with crutches. It's nice to see people portraying this sort of thing in such a creative way. Have you seen the movie Crash?

I always hated models and cheerleaders until I realized that the majority of people were going to be stupid no matter what category they fit into. Most people don't understand the spectrum whether they're famous mainstream models or teenagers at a goth show. There aren't as many eccentric cheerleaders as models but there are the radical cheerleaders who come out to political protests which is always entertaining.

Glad I could show you guys the more creative side of modeling. The site I model for is actually a geek oriented site with nerdcore rappers and all sorts of craziness. If the other models here aren't aspie they're definitely sympathetic: http://www.scrubclubrecords.com/chicks/ourgirls.html

Once, when I was young and (thought of myself as) pretty I half-heartedly pursued a career in modeling. The pinncale of my career was a shot that appeard in a national ad campaign for The Gap almost 20 years ago... Now Im just old and tired looking. I'll see if I have a copy of the ad anywhere and post it.

I was a fashion and fitness model for many years. It was great. Did Armani and Hugo Boss campaigns, as well as Speedo and Jantzen (bathing suits). Also did two Scorpio campaigns (Japanese underwear, well someone's gotta be the guy on the box :P ).
