Are we going back in time or what? What once was old is now new again. NASA is going back to using capsules instead of shuttles and even the post offices are removing their stamp dispensing machines for human clerks.
What else do you see around you that is as once was?
Please contribute to list.

I was single when I was a young woman, and I am again single now as an old woman. :D

Why do you feel old, and why if you do?

the entire steam-punk movement is intersting along these lines. just do a search for the phrase "steam punk". they recreate modern things with victorian era artisan flare and style.

There is a sort of paradigm shift in this post industrial age we are now seeing the return of cottage
industry, that is cottage industries that do not turn raw materials into finished goods but take mass produced
products and modify them to customer specifications. And yes there is room for traditional cottage industries
such as "designer" soaps or other hand crafts. In the recent edition of Make Magazine George Dyson the
son of physicist Freeman Dyson describes the resurgence of the cottage economy as a means to both
securing our energy future and pulling ourselves out of this current recession.

The small grocery store (not a "supermarket") at which I shop always has adequate cashiers and baggers--you never have to wait in a line or bag your own.

They take your groceries out and put them in the car for you, then return the cart so you never have to worry about your car getting dinged by stray carts. You do not have to tip. :money:

(Yay--been looking for a good excuse to use the "greedy" emoticon!)

And here's the real kicker: the employees are never rude, and will go out of their way to help you if you ask.

It's like something from the 1950's!

Except they do have modern scanner checkouts and not those huge crunchy-noisy NCR and Sweda cash registers that I remember fondly from my childhood--I much prefer the sound of motors and gears and levers to those incessant beeps (which seem to be of a waveform and frequency calculated for maximum annoyance). One store even had a couple that had to be cranked by hand--no motor even. 8O

I always wanted one of those old cash registers for a toy, and did get a small mechanical adding machine for Christmas when I was 6! :nerdy: Okay, I'm off-topic now--happens a lot as I get old...

Big ugly shoes, shaved heads, tats, torn clothes.

Children dying of diseases that were almost eliminated 30 years ago.

Cars that get good mileage.

Back when gas was under two dollars
Back when you didn't need boarding passes to go beyond the security check point at airports. back when you didn't need to take off your shoes and watch and other little things and put them in the tubs.
Back when there was lot of Barbie stuff and all those Kelly dolls and Stacie and Skipper. Back when Ken existed
Back when self check outs didn't exist
Back when baby diapers were plastic and back when it was easy to find adult diapers in stores, now they are starting to disappear. They're getting harder to find them.
Back when Sega was still making game systems
Back when Nickelodeon kicked ass and had all those cool Nick logo commercials
Back when Disney kicked ass too and had all these old shows and Vault Disney
Back when Nick had game shows and did them and had the studio in Florida

People are spending more time at the forums and less at the Colosseum.

We are moving back to locally grown produce.

Someone is building a soda fountain in the town in which I live.

They are also rebuilding the town square where I live.

And let's not forget that vinyl record sales are on the increase.
