I don't know but there seems to be a lot of trends that come and go. One noticeable trend I've seen here and some other sites is less of that annoying word emo. Use to be emo was an insult to those who expressed their sadness or dissappointment. Now I'm not seeing it as often as I use to which is a good thing for me anyway. Emo already seemed outdated and and a far cry from the subculture. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of whining either but there was just too much of it being as interchangeable as sadness.

Not saying that this has totally changed but it's definitely not as prevalent as it was.

So here's my question, what trends have you seen in the last few years that have shifted or changed?

What are some of the trends you're seeing more of now in your world or on forums? What do you hope to see more of or less of in the future?

Strange, I haven't seen the word emo being used very much on other forums either.

And that's a good thing isn't it? :wtg:

'Tis. :D

I don't understand people who really identify with the "emo" culture.

I haven't heard of people mention about emo in so long, I go to a (kind of) academically challenging university and so no one would be emo here.

Yes I understand what you mean MissConstrue. The anti emo phase has come and gone. Other things I noticed was the amount of attention Sarah Palin was getting in the run up to the US elections and the threads started in the Love and dating Forum about who was the most attractive aspies, which went on for a while and on the General Autism Discussion, at one point when things got really heated about the topic of IQ's.

I think a lot of it has to do with the definition of "emo" changing about every 10 minutes.

To quote the Simpsons:

Homer: You're not "with it"!
Abe (Grampa): I used to be "with it", then they changed what "it" was. Now what I am "with" isn't "it" anymore. It'll happen to you!

Anyway, I remember the Appreciation threads dedicated to various WP members.

I am not sure people understand what emo is, and I dont understand how it ever became calling a person 'emo' as a insult?
Emo is a style of punk music (I dont like emo, but I like punk music), what I dont understand is how a style of music becomes something that has nothing to do with music? It seems people just started using "emo" as a insult to mean someone that is emotional, whiney, and annoying, and the way they use it has nothing to do with music or the musicle culture.
I dont listen to emo because it is to depressing to me, but simply listening to emo does not mean that the person is emotional or "emo"

Now that I think about it, I haven't been hearing the Emo term either. I am a gifted intervention specialist in a public school system, and I used to hear the term a lot among the teens---but this year I can say I don't think I've heard it.

I saw it in the Art and Music forum a while ago; it seemed to imply someone who wasn't in control of their emotions, or possibly hosting a private pity party...;)

it's so five minutes ago...;)

I too have noticed the Appreciation threads
are so "10 minutes ago."

The "Emo/Goth" culture is now squashed with the punk culture.
People, being "Emo" was so 2005.

I'm not an emo and have never been one.
At my school, no one's an emo.

Here in Portland, the term "emo" is never heard nor said anymore.

Yes I remember those annoying appreciation threads!!

I'm so glad that's over with especially when the fights use to be so bad here b/c other ppl didn't feel appreciated.

And yeah if you were to call someone emo here in Mizoura, you'd risk getting your head slam dunked... :|

I think it's good that the word isn't being used as much, here.

When I first joined, there was a 'clique' that used to hang together, here in the Random Section. It wasn't a bad thing, just something I noticed that changed. Everybody seems to do their own thing now. :chin:

Emo and goth are not the same.

Emo - I'm sad and I cut myself to advertise my pain, however small and manageable.

Goth - I don't care. F you.

True

Emo - Feel sorry for me because I feel this way.

Goth - Feel sorry for me because I look this way.
