It's the holidays again, people expect gifts from others, people feel obligated to do it, people blow out their budgets or go into debt.

Screw this I am skipping it. I don't like the hassle of having to make decisions and feeling stressed about it. My parents are okay with what I am doing and my husband did the shopping instead.

i'm a big hypocrite about it. I hate getting gifts. Very uncomfortable feeling. But I do enjoy shopping and thinking of good ideas for other people. Not really the christmas part where the majority of the time is spent looking for parking and waiting in check out lines, but the shopping part is fun.

I think that gifts that don't mean anything are overrated, and gifts that mean something are severely underrated.

Not when they shoot a 40 grain 5.7mm piece of copper jacketed lead at 2000 feet per second with relatively little noise.

Cool new stuff that I didn't have to pay for? Totally overrated.

Christmas is a hassle. Generally I hate it and ignore it until about a week beforehand, then I finally get into it to an extent. When my kids were small, I did it for them, but we were poor most of the time so it was painful for them to see their peers getting fancy presents while we relied on charity.
Holidays disrupt my routines, and after a long while I start getting into it, and then suddenly it's over.
This year my son comes home for Christmas on leave and then he goes to Afghanistan in March. We aren't huge into Christmas, but we intend to have a good time and be as stress free as possible.
Trying to avoid stress even more lately because I lost my dad to cancer this past August, and I'm trying to get my head around my son going into a combat zone.

Not intending to be whiney, just saying that Christmas can be painful for a lot of people at times. It's supposed to be fun, and you're supposed to be charitable, but that's silly, one can be charitable any time of the year.
