I just friended a kid who I thought was a friend of mine from high school... but b/c he had so little info on his profile, I didn't know until just now that it was the wrong person (his birth year proves this kid is younger than my friend) *facepalm*.

I haven't, but often find people with the same nick I know someone by... and I go enthusiastically Are you that person..?? And they usually aren't...

Oh, actually once I told someone I didn't believe they weren't the person I thought they were. But I guess trying to talk someone into being someone else is a fail.

I once sent a friend request to someone I thought was an old friend from elementary school, only to find out later that it wasn't him. He never confirmed me, and I'm glad he didn't.

Also, I remember getting a message from a lady all the way from Wisconsin asking me if I was someone she knew from elementary school. I replied, saying that I wasn't, and it seemed to be a little awkward for her.

Oh sure. I have done that. It was somebody I thought I went to highschool with. He had the same name and used a photo of a bird for his profile picture. So I sent a message and he wrote back that he didn't go to that highschool. This probably happens a lot, especially when people don't use themselves in their profile pictures. It is an "oops" moment.
