a few years ago, there was a special about an African country narrated by Avery Brooks. One segment of the show depicted a large pit in the earth (well, a few meters wide) that has heavier-than-air gasses seeping out from the ground. It settled in the pit and animals went in there, couldn't breathe and dies. This attracted more animals to the site because they could smell the dead animals.

There was another video I'm looking for. It's of a very dry pasture where cattle or horses are. The ground is dirt. It starts to rain and the water allows billions of mosquito eggs to hatch and they all fly off looking for their first feeding which happens to be the cattle. Come morning, all the cattle are dead, drained of blood one drop at a time.

Just can't seem to be able to find these videos on-line.

I have no idea of which video this could be, but the same phenomenon with the heavier than air gasses was documented in another video about Yellowstone National Park that appeared on the Discovery channel a couple of years ago. --Unfortunately, I have no idea about that one either.
