it's my umbrella tree. It wasn't doing very good. Some of the stalks were turning brown and most of the leaves were withering and falling off so I just put it outside and when I'm sure it's dead, I'll reclaim the soil for use in something else.

I don't think I'll be getting another. Too temperamental.

I'll stick with cacti, English ivy, spider plants and snake plants. Though we were given a nice baby aloe plant the other day.

but I don't know what's going on with my amaryllis. I planted the bulb on the 26th and it's not showing any signs of life. From what I understand, they grow almost fast enough to watch.

I'm sorry to hear it, I'm always upset when any of my plants die. My first basil plant died last week, I grew them from seeds.

I like growing eremophila plants though, they're beautiful, sadly, my Eremophila glabra died around two months ago, I grew that plant from a 3cm seedling into a metre high plant and then it just... dies.

Though Umbrella trees aren't really good to have in a garden. The roots can tear a house's driveway/plumbing to pieces.

You might want to try a false aralia as well.
