Here's my pet peeve of the day. Actually, this is something that I notice almost every day and it really gets on my nerves, so I've finally decided to mention it. It's when people (mostly online), mention Wal-Mart as though it's the only store in the world. As though it is assumed that everyone shops at Wal-Mart. Like, if someone wants to talk about some kind of useful item, and they mention that it's available at Wal-Mart. "The plastic baby bottles they sell at Wal-Mart are perfect for storing crochet hooks." That kind of thing. As if you can't get plastic baby bottles anywhere else (or whatever item is being talked about).

Personally, I've never set foot in a Wal-Mart in my entire life, and refuse to do so, because they are responsible for stripping all the character out of small American cities, so now every small city/town is a clone of the next. I guess what bugs me is the assumption and expectation that we all (at least in the U.S.) have accepted that our country has been taken over by Wal-Mart. Like that's how things are meant to be. All hail Wal-Mart! It's like our national religion. And for some reason which I can't understand, everyone seems to have this need to mention Wal-Mart in their posts. (I'm not thinking of anyone in particular; it's pervasive.) I don't feel the need to mention the names of stores where I buy things, but it's like, if it's Wal-Mart, you have to say it. I don't get it.

Okay, rant over. For now. :D

"I went and bought milk at Walmart to go with my Walmart-brand cereal, and I thought 'What the heck, I'll buy all my groceries at Walmart too," and then I went ahead and decided to buy my clothes and shoes from Walmart, and a new printer from Walmart, and some baby wipes from Walmart, and... a bed sheet set from some other store I don't remember. But, gee, isn't Walmart great?"

I made a U-turn in a wallmart parking lot once. That's as close as I ever got to one of their stores.

One of my former teachers is on a lifelong boycot of Walmart because she feels it's corrupt. When I asked her why she disliked Walmart, she went into a five-minute rant about it.

I bought a lot of clothes and groceries from Wal-Mart... Shoot me! It's alright, but shopping should never be one-stop and I agree about Wal-Mart taking all of the character out of a town, but so does places like Starbucks, McDonald's, etc. I hate those places. McDonald's "food" sucks and Starbucks I have never been to because I do not like coffee! :x

Walmart's done far worse than make small town America bland....

How about eviscerating America's manufacturing sector?

How about enriching and empowering the evil scumbags who did this?

Trading with walmart makes you an accessory to murder and treason... :?

First it was the Blacksmith selling factory hardware made back east, then the drug store put in a soda fountain.

We lost our regional clothings styles, with the rise of the garment district, in New York City.

Then came those Department Stores, selling shoes, clothes, and hats!

The Five and Dime took discounting to the mass market Chain Store, undersold and ruined local business, running a business with Employees!

Then Sears, Montgomery Ward, not even local stores, just a book.

Western Auto sold oil for home use, spark plugs, and killed service stations, reduced them to pumping gas.

TV was the worst, two generations and all regional language vanished.

Skills it took generations to develop were exported whole to low labor cost areas, so few people know how to make anything, much less food, clothing, shelter. During the depression most people still had the family farm to go back to, and knew how to get in a crop.

Since WWII we have been riding the Tiger, and the problem is how to get off.

I went to Wal Mart and bought a DVD from Wal Mart called A League of Their Own.

I shop at WalMart regularly. I am poor, and cannot afford stuff at the local stores.

Once we got our brand-new WalMart Super Center, one of the local supermarket chains dropped its prices to compete. Now I can afford to do more of my shopping there.

I'm tired of hearing WalMart this, WalMart that. For those of us on very limited incomes, WalMart is a godsend.

The only thing I have against Wal Mart is their LONG lines for checkout. They need to hire more cashiers!! !

Well this is how I see, I've been to Walmart a couple of times. When I have no option:

Walmart is the lower Target, but Target is the lower version of Sears

Mervyns was the lower version of Kohls, but now Mervyns is out of business.

I mean I don't want to be offensive to anyones wealth or anything. Walmart is an okay store. They have nice healthcare benefits for their employees and they are providing jobs.
But it isn't my store.

I've noticed that too! D:
Mostly on this one forum I'm on with a high concentration of, er.. redneck hick members. They call it Wally World. I had no idea what they were talking about for at least a week.

I've been to a Wal-Mart a few times. It wasn't that great.

I refuse to set foot in Wal-Mart. Generally speaking, I hate Wal-Mart with a passion. I'll shop at Target any day.
