Do you judge people by their post count?

I don't.

But I do think when someone has so many posts counts, it tells me how addicted they are to this place and how much they love to chat and participate but that depends on their join date. Like if someone joined here a month ago and they already have over 2,000 posts, oh boy they sure have lot of time on their hands. But I don't think any less of them or any more of them, especially questioning their DX or thinking their self diagnoses must be wrong.

The ones with a lower post count, I think they aren't big participants here and they don't like to read that much but I also go by the date they have joined to know. Like if someone joined here four years ago and they only have over 200 posts, not much of a participant here and maybe they don't come here much. But I don't think any less of them.

Being here for three years and posting since November 2007 under this account, I wonder what my post count tells you guys?
I'm actually surprised I made this many in two years and I feel I don't make that many posts the fact not feeling like making a post even though I have something to say or I have no idea what to say to a post until I have read other replies to get the idea what the post was about. I also notice I have became a chat whore here. I hardly participate in the games/roleplaying/quizzes section.

Not really, but I think those who have higher post counts are more popular here. I could be wrong, though.

Then there are some people who post more than everyone else combined...;) no names, please

I dunno, I post a lot, but I'm not that worried about popularity.

I don't judge the people here, by their post counts.

More posts = more time here = better understanding of the place.

Or lack of something else to do.

The reason why it seems that the people with higher post counts are more popular is because we've known each other for longer. I guess it'd be kinda like how regulars at a bar are more likely to socialize with each other than with someone who doesn't stop by that often. (Mind you, I've never been to a bar, but that's what I imagine it to be like.)

That being said, I've never judged anyone by their join date or post count. I feel familiar and comfortable with people with higher post counts, because most of them have been here either as long as or longer than I have. I'm always curious about people with lower post counts and more recent join dates - I want to find out more about them and I hope they become regulars. However, I never approach them because I'm too shy (I almost never PM people).

Many times per day I click reply and try to type a post, but rarely hit submit because I spend so much time editing and adding sentences to explain things and then sometimes I realize that I don't know a good way to explain what I'm trying to say and sometimes someone says something which explains the same thing I was thinking. If those things happen I don't click submit.

I read this site for hours almost every day, and have since a few weeks before I joined.

I don't understand why someone would judge another person by said person's post count.

I don't think posting in the quizzes forum is considered "chatting" though, so it depends on where they post.

Given my post count, I think that there isn't much connection with popularity.

Post count is affected, directly, by a single person. Popularity is affected by the populace.

I think that is it exactly. Those with higher post counts are likely to have interacted with more people and got to know them - even if it is mainly in the 'off the wall' forum!

People tend to hang out in certain forums or even certain epic threads and form a lose circle of associates / friends there. The more they interact with others the more "popular" they are likely to become. I always try to interact with people at some level, even in the games forum rather than just spam posting there.

The awful truth is that WP is my social life.

Well I like you. I think maybe those who participate principally in PPR are likely to ruffle each others feathers more and perhaps not be so popular with each other? That said, opposing views on politics or religion aren't a problem for me provided people are polite and show each other some respect.

Quite true. People always get worked up over religion, politics and philosophy. I personally love to argue, but I try never to let that influence how I see someone, though I do tend to like good debaters. As shown clearly by debating on the Marvel Vs. boards, there are people there I argue with CONSTANTLY yet don't consider enemies.

To iamnotaparakeet, I don't have any problem with you at all. I even just posted in your last thread in the PPR forum and don't consider you any less of a person because of it. You're a good debater, you have my respect because of that.

I think postcount is just that. Someone could have a high or low one in regard to their time registered here for any number of reasons.

I'm here all flipping day. I'm so addicted, it's pathetic. I've got things I need to get done, and things I want to accomplish, but I keep reading more posts. Hour after hour. Day after day. It's that bad. I write many, many, many replies that I end up not sending because I'm not satisfied with them. I'm starting threads all the time, but almost never finish them or send them.

I don't judge people by their post count because it doesn't mean much. I personally think people shouldn't write no-substance posts just to increase their post count. Like, if a person is looking for advice or understanding about a problem they're having, and someone posts, "I've never had that problem." just because they want their post count to increase, I think that's kind of annoying. There are people here who have very high post counts, but pretty much say the same thing each time. Other people, like b9 and sartresue, don't post a whole lot, but when they do, there's usually something insightful or witty. As the saying goes, sometimes less is more.

I suspect there are a lot of people who read without posting.
