Don't get scared or anything but I want to tell you what happened to me. I had a lower 3rd molar surgically removed because it was impacted and "thought" to cause future pain and harm. Well, the nerve on my right side must've gotten bumped or fooled with somehow. Now, I have only partial sensation on the right side of my chin to where people have to tell me if I have food on it because I can't feel it. It improved over the years but never came back totally. Now, the "inside" of that lower, right quadrant can be super-sensitive when it comes to cleaning or probing. It's weird. Sometimes I wish I had just left it alone or waited until I had an actual problem before going in for dental surgery. This was "preventative" work. Those docs make an awful lot of money on "preventative" work. The same way insurances rip you off.
"The just-in-case scenario". Now I got a numb chin and I'm 400 dollars poorer.
Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone.

Like someone else, I lost feeling in the right side of my face when I had my bottom two taken out (the root and facial nerve were all wrapped around one another). The whole side in my case though (the whole cheek area).
you two were lucky, you only lost feeling on your chin/face!
I am one of those that had a nightmare wisdom teeth removal (so if your going to have this done, probably best not to read this

)
First some background, I have always had speech disorder/communication issues. I also had a open bite, were non of my teeth touched except my back 4.
It has been around 7 years now since I had them out. I got it done at a surgeon, was put under, and they took three of them out (I had one taken out previous). As a result of the surgery, I lost ALL feeling in my tongue, and most of my taste. The surgeon also damaged two teeth back teeth, two of only four teeth that touch together in my mouth! My tongue was numb and I couldnt taste much for about a year, I could chomp down on it to the point of it bleeding and I couldnt feel it. On the bright side I could eat just about anything with disregard to flavor, my moms cooking was instantly good, lol. So, many years later now, and I have gained back some of my feeling, and some more of my taste. My body has adjusted to it, and that part is really no big deal. My taste adjusted and I tend to eat a lot of spicy stuff, put hot peppers and jalapenos on most things. BUT, the back teeth that were damaged cause me a ton of pain when I chew back there, and I am in need of another surgery to pull those teeth and correct my bite to avoid even more pain, so 7 years later and the damage from getting them out is STILL causing me trouble
