I need a new travel note book but I'm not sure about Windows 7.

Vista 32 bit was a real abortion and I don't want to get fooled again.

If you have a computer with Windows 7 on it, what's your scoop on Windows 7?

One day I had an amazing vision... I wanted an operating system that cost £300, unreliable, unsecure, and buggy. I wanted blue screens and a slightly modified Vista UI.

Then, Microsoft came up with Windows 7, and they used all my ideas! I'm a genius!

I'm Asp-Z, and Windows 7 was my idea!

Well, I'm using Win7 64bit on my desktop and notebook and win7 starter on my netbook and compared vista (the worst OS ever made) it's great!! !

PS
If you're planning to upgrade from vista, do a fresh install or you're screwed.

Its no WinXP, but its better then Vista, I am running the 64bit version on my desktop and XP Pro on my laptop. I would get the basic win7 starter version, which is perfect on laptops, but it doesn't come in a 64bit in that version which depending on the laptop you may like the added performance.

PEBKAC ("Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair") you either did an upgrade or are using a crappy computer, I had more trouble with Win XP when it first came out then I did with Win 7, this OS it a worthy replacement to XP

i made the switch ages ago.... to mac.
I still run XP from time to time on my macbook.

I hate Vista & 7 with a passion. 7 is all my problems/error messages/pains in the bum * 1000.

I use mac and Windows operating systems daily and 7 is nice but it's nothing ground ground breaking or anything.

I do like the whole "minimize into icon in the taskbar" idea.

It's like, if the windows taskbar slept in the same bed as the os x dock.

Now what would be sort of neat is that the os x dock would do the same thing or just have a second bar under the app dock to hold the external windows.

I'm still waiting for Windows 7 to be released. I would probably say that it's better to get a 64bit version of an operating system. It's just that many developers seem to do mainly 32bit so 64bit optimisation is not there for 64bit to show off its capabilities.

Having never tried vista because I'd heard horror stories and I was content with xp, I was wary when deciding whether or not to try 7. I did a lot of research though and decided to give it a try since I had to get a new hard drive anyway so a new install was happening already. It's only been a few weeks, but I highly recommend it! I'm very impressed with it so far and haven't had any trouble at all. I was worried about older games not working on it, but so far it's been fine with all the games I've tried.

You can get it cheaper if you buy the vista upgrade and use it as a fresh install. It involves a few minutes on the phone with microsoft to get their fancy back door code but they answer their phones surprisingly fast and for the money saved it's totally worth an extra couple of steps.

It's kind of funny though, a few days after getting windows 7, I was using someone's computer who had xp and it brought back memories of windows 98, it just seemed so outdated. And I loved xp, used it for years and had just gotten used to it's flaws and quirks. It had a good run but I'm very happy with 7.

It came pre-installed on my new PC that I bought a few months ago. It's ok I guess. I preferred my old PC with XP but I'm getting used to 7.

There exists technology to clone one hard drive to another. So all that's needed to do is swap them over when done. If on the older ATA drives remember to set to master/slave, etc. done. No installing necessary
