Most likely as punishment for masturbation. However, they have a very vague definition of what's inappropriate and what's not.

-If it involves nudity of any kind, it is inappropriate.
-If it involves cursing, it is inappropriate.
-If it involves non-explicit love making, it is inappropriate.
-If it involves graphic violence, it is inappropriate.

I'm afraid they will use these as pretexts for blocking my favorite websites, like deviantART, YouTube and a certain website that appeals to everyone on the autism spectrum (you're on it right now). They treat me like I'm three year old when it comes to the Internet. They should seriously let me grow up.

Buy your own computer with your own money, then problem solved. A decent used one can be gotten on eBay between $100-200.

It is actually possible to hack filters, but you really have to know what you are doing to avoid getting noticed and it could either be very easy or next to impossible depending on the brand. I would suggest learning what type they plan to use and doing as much research on it as you can.

That's ridiculous. Masturbation is normal, for one thing, and for another, do they think you're 16 or 6? Unfortunately there's not much you can do about it except get access to computers another way by buying your own or using a friend's.

I like the idea of getting your own computer. Get a job or do something to earn a few hundred bucks and get yourself a netbook. Dont even tell your parents you are getting it, and dont even show it to them, just get it, use it in private, and be sure to use a password on it so your parents cant get on it to spy on you.
If your parents find out you have it, make a stand, tell them you are 16 and almost a adult (you are almost a adult), and that you would like some privacy, and that it is time for you to start making some of your own decisions and that you accept any possible consequences of those decisions if they end up being bad decisions. Tell them that they wont be there to make decisions for you for the rest of your life, so the time has come that you make some of your own decisions and learn some responsibility for yourself.

They are just going through a phase. Don't worry.

Parents thinking they can block computer usage ^^ oh lol. No need to build your own computer. Even the best lock software is fatallay flawed because it is on top on an operating system, you can get rid of the operating system altogether by using a Linux Live CD or (better) a Live USB. No , don't worry, you don't need to install Linux on your machine, just get a Live CD which allows you to use it without installing it. That will be enough to allow you to browse most places. But try finding one of the illegal ones that come with flash since you want youtube and other crap that depends on it.

So they basically don't want you to have access to 98% of the internet.

Perhaps it might be effective if you asked your parents if they have sex. If yes, then chastize them for engaging in inappropriate behaviour. If they don't see the blatant hipocrisy of what they're doing, just point it out.

seriously, either reason with them or get through this until you can get a laptop. a little netbook could work.

I know how to get around server-based filters easily; not sure about if it's on the computer rather than the server.

you are 16 and not allowed to masturbate? it is a common thing almost all teenagers in life have masturbated at least more than once (it is a daily basis for me) try and tell your parents how normal of a thing it is for teenagers to do.

also if they put up a filter it is most likely going to use a password. most parents are really stupid and use the same password for any web related thing. so if you know the pass they use for everything just type it in to unlock the filter temporarily. and put it back up when you are done on the computer (also be sure to erase all history and cookies and especially your image cache just so your parents dont even know you were on the internet let alone something they dissagree with)

Or just use your cell phone if it has wifi access.

If it's a Windows computer, wait until they install the locks, then boot it in safe mode and log into the hidden Administrator account (which should now show up on the login screen). Use it to make a second admin account for yourself, then boot the computer normally. In the admin account you've just made, you should be able to do whatever you want. If the locks are still in place, you should be able to disable them, or disable the processes manually in the Task Manager.
