...wouldn't most of us be criminals? If not then we would all be broke from all the fines we received (civil offenses).

Think about it, everytime you go over the speed limit, you would need to pay a fine (some of us would be broke many times over by now).

Everytime you park illegally in one way or another.

When the price for tickets is more expensive for people over the age of 18 but you tell the ticket seller "2 adults" when there are in fact 3 adults. (your parents look too old so the lie will not work)

illegally downloading music/movies

and the list goes on...

If you include civil offenses, yes, we'd all have broken the law. It's impossible to go through life without breaking some sort of stupid civil law, it's just a good thing we don't all have lawyers at our sides!

EDIT: There is NO SUCH THING as illegally downloading music and films! it's unlawful; its a civil matter, it is not illegal! This really gets to me...

I accidentally break the speed limit near my house sometimes. The speed limit is 25 mph, but it's a wide road, and my car seems to want to go 35 unless I make a conscious effort to keep it slower. And I've been known to let my parking meter run out because I don't have a good concept of time, and I often forget to charge my cell phone battery, so I don't have a clock.

But I would never illegally download music and movies, park illegally, or try to cheat. I wouldn't dream of trying to pass my kid off as under 12 to get kid's ticket for something (he's 12, not under 12), or anything like that. I wouldn't want my kids to think that cheating is okay.

So, I'd have a few fines here and there, but not much else.

i'd be broke 7 times over. My car can't seem to go the speed limit, I need to break it by 3-4 everytime. 35 might as well be 38 to me.

in america, speed limits are set at a puritanically low level. most other western nations have more liberal [just like their politics] speed limits. our speed limits are set NOT at the speed 80% of folk tend to drive -closer to the truth would be that they are set SLOWER than what speed 80% of folk are driving. the purpose of this is simply to raise revenue for the state or municipality doing the speed-limiting. any claims to the contrary can be taken with a grain of salt. just listen-in to any county/city council meeting where proposed speed limits are discussed- the truth slips-out eventually.

The police and its extensions (legislative and judicial branches) rarely fight crime, rather, they create it.

They need the ability to create a profit after all, and crime profits.
