Evolutionary development : intelligent adaption (ratio)?
I have been trying to work out the following ratio . ( Don't get obsessed, there are at least one million better things to think about at 3Am than this!- if you can't esc try "why are cream eggs?" Works for me. )
Problem : how do you pick up an object which is a shape that doesn't allow you to pick it up?
(For example if you have crab like claws and you need to move a pebble bigger than the jaws extend.)
If you wait for evolution to find a solution that might be a million years of trial and error to design a bigger jaw that can accommodate the object shape you want to move, or a set of behavioral hard-wiring arrived at by chance that allows you to use existing physiology in a different way.
or
If you are a really intelligent crab like creature you might close both jaws , bring both arms together and use them to shift the object. ( Like you were carrying a soccer ball against your (human) chest with your forearms. )
So, is an intelligent response to a particular problem about working through of all the possibilities of trial and error design without having to wait for nature to come up with that design. If so , if it takes nature a "long time" to sort through trial and error designs, and a "short time" for an adaptive brain to work through these possibilities and arrive at the solution, is this what intelligence is?
Is nature ( metaphorically) operating on a really long wavelength and an intelligent brain shifting that wavelength to say a ultra-wave frequency , ie we are processing ( lens like) millions of its potential solutions without millions of genetic permutations having to physically evolve to arrive at the solution?
What is the ratio between the time taken for biological adaption and intelligent adaption?
Furthermore
If we are processing millions of genetic potential variables, . ( and - we have to be processing something, ) something abstract, like a very easily readable , universal thread of unbroken language to arrive at our solution. One great big long unbroken thread of language/code reaching right back through evolutionary time.
Remind you of anything ?
