No, I don't think so. I guess it depends on who was saying it, and if they were being sincere, or not. It's something I believe, and so do many others. I'm guessing that was said to you by someone who doesn't have the same beliefs/lifestyle that you do? In that case, i would interpret it as "Although we are different people, it's totally cool that you are an individual, and shouldn't change that for anyone". Unless, of course, that person is a condescending a**hole, in which I'd tell him/her to go screw theirselves. :P

That doesn't seem patronizing to me. I think if the other person had a problem with it, they would have told you.
