It went to s**t.

Nothing left to say except the memories of a past that was once full of interesting music and interesting videos.

Do they even still call it MTV (Music Television) these days?

Huh? I came to this conclusion in 1995, the last time I really watched it. I'm alternately amused and scared that was 15 years ago.

I was going to say the same thing, though I'm pretty sure it was 1996 when I stopped watching.

At that point I had already gone 5 years without watching it (didn't have cable after around 1990). Stayed in a motel somewhere and watched it for a while, shook my head and moved on.

I have DirecTV now but I mostly keep it on CNN.

I stopped watching it regularly when they took Aeon Flux off the air and started over-playing Beavis & Butthead...

The first three or four years were the "Golden Age" of MTV then it turned to sh!t.

They still play music on "MTVU", but it's alternating hip-hop with emo "alternative" bands. In other words, it sucks.

Well, at least they now recognize the channel hasn't been about music since a long time.

I was about to say it was dead for a long time but I wasn't quick enough.

The question is who caused this? The corporation the runs it, or the people not deciding to stop watching it when it started it's downward spiral?

100% corporate
mtv is a business, and as such it needs $, even if they alienate their previous consumers...

The Dead Kennedys nailed it back in 1985!

Trivia question: What was the first music video shown on MTV? I will reveal the answer if no one knows.
