You know at one time my dad had ask me if I wanted to possibly go on a solo vacation to Europe as part of my "therapy" when I was first diagnosed with Asperger's. That plan never go anywhere unfortunatly.

Now that I'm a little older, I kinda want to go on my own REAL solo vacation. I'm the only one in my immediate family who has yet to have a true out-of-country experience (or have a need to get a passport). I lived in Korea for a few months as a baby but I dont count that.

I've thought about moving to Canada but for now I wouldnt mind going on a vacation there sometime in the next several months while the weather is good. I'm only an 8hr drive from Toronto and I'm thinking if my parents dont wanna pay for a plane ticket, maybe I could drive. Then again I wouldnt mind taking a plane.

It would be neat if I could go there by myself. The only vacations they let me do solo is to Texas to see some friends who live there (I have relatives in that area as well).

But hey, it's not like I'm asking them to let me somewhere foreign like Australia cause that will cost buttloads of money (even though I really wanna do Australia as well). I figure Canada is a simple place to start, plus I miss Tim Horton's. I tried one in Ohio once, it was amazing food!

Well those are my thoughts. What do you think? My parents would think I am nuts. And should I be doing Toronto first? I would love to do Vancouver if my parents let me do a plane. I dunno I just REALLY need to have a REAL out of country experience sometime soon.

I would consider doing something like that, if I could afford it.

I have been to Toronto and many other places in Canada and the World by myself. I absolutely love Canada. Canadians are wonderful people. I loved Toronto and I really think you should go there if you can. I was familiar with traveling a great deal as a child with my family. We spent many Summers in the Canadian Wilderness as well. My grandparents owned a lot of property in Canada so it was easy for us to stay there for extended periods.

I would recommend the Vancouver area way above Toronto. I was there in November for a week and it was absolutely gorgeous! Truly stunning, and I was there in rainy season. I would also recommend Ottawa before I would recommend Toronto. Ottawa is beautiful. Toronto is just... Toronto.

I wouldn't go to a foreign country by myself. I'd rather go with a companion because that would lessen the likelihood of my getting lost or something.

I don't know much about Canada because it's not exactly high on my list of places I want to go.

Travel can be a wonderful thing! Even if the culture of your destination is not very different (Canada vs USA) there will still be things you have to figure out and new perspectives to see. Even the simple act of packing for the trip and reducing your life to what fits in a suitcase is an experience. If Vancouver interests you, that's as good a place as any to start. Don't cross Australia off your list entirely, though - for a few thousand you can a decent stay. As long as you present the idea to your parents in a positive, well thought out way I don't see why they would say no. If it's your own money and you're over 18, they can't stop you anyway.

Getting lost in a strange city is actually not that big of a danger, assuming it's not the middle of the night in a rough city. As long as you have $20 and the address of the place you're staying all you need to do is find a cab.

Feel free to PM me if you have any general travel questions. I don't know anything about Toronto and don't know much about Vancouver, but I've been to many other cities.

Do you have a current passport? If not, apply for one now. It's cheap and good for 10 years so there's no reason to wait.

I was going to go to Spain for work few years ago, but I changed my mind.
I would rather go abroad with my family.

I would so love to leave this place. I've never liked living in the US. Though does going back to my own country count as 'foreign'? We have much more culture and history. And of course, I would love to go to Europe, especially Spain and Italy, the Vatican to be specific, and Russia.

I've gone to Germany, Poland, and Austria solo. I love traveling alone. Is it right for you? I don't know you enough to make that call.

Well yes compared to Vancouver and Ottawa, Toronto is just... Toronto. But I still love it. I love Quebec too. :)

That would be wonderful to live in Europe again. I'm thinking about going to Finland for a year. To use it as a home base and travel off and on to Russia.

I've always wanted to go solo, to England.

I guess Canada is good if you fit in well with a liberal environment and mindset. I've done three solo vacations abroad, including a train tour of America last year.
