when i was younger and fitter, i found that there was nothing as soothing, nothing that drained angst away so effectively, as hopping in the lap pool of the local YMCA, and swimming a mile or so most nights after work. something about the acoustic ambience of the water splashing and the hum of the pumps put my mind at ease, and the massage of the lukewarm water caressed me as it flowed past my body while i pulled and kicked down the lane and back. it kept me slim and fit and as a bonus i didn't sweat, i always hated sweating as i normally do so profusely, but not when i was in the water.

anybody else out there with a similar story?

I love swimming. I find it very therapeutic. I love the feel of the water, next to my skin. I feel that I'm far away from my problems, when I'm at my local pool. I'm not slim, by any means, but I find that it's a very good workout.

I swim like a brick, and inhale water at a pretty fast rate  Although that does not stop me from trying, one of these days I want to compete in some triathlons, and actually do good, so I work at my swimming, but I do more filtering of the pool water then anything, lol

"filtering of the pool water" - i will have to remember that description, as that is exactly what i did most of all. the lifeguards were mostly on edge when i was in the water because about every fifth lap or so i would choke and cough on the water, stopping midstream holding onto the lane divider floats for dear life. i never was good at swimming, it was only a means to an end [staying fit and stress relief from work]. i couldn't run anymore [arthritic knees] so swimming was all there was left.
for you to be aspiring to triathlons is way better than i ever thought about being.

I love swimming and the water.

I found scuba diving to be my untimate experience. to date, for disconnecting.

I remember walking to a restaurant after my first scuba dive and being strangely alert to the fact that I was NOT surrounded by (and underneath 15m of) water.

It was almost as though I was walking in an air environment for the first time.

Me! I love water! I was born in January and in July I was first time in sea or lake. I live close to sea and many lakes, so it's natural for me.
I taught to swim when I was 4 and got Swimming Licence when I was 10. And swimming is only one sport which I really do well. I am tall, well-built, I have long legs and strong arms, so it's the best sport for me. And it's individual, that's most important :D
Maybe if I was trained since childhood, I'd be professional? Who knows...

I love to swim for myself. Temperature doesn't matter, when I see sea, I MUST go. I'm low-temperature-resistant.

And I love water even at home. I can spend in the bathroom half a hour or more. It makes me calm, gives me energie and I love touch of water

I love swimming, but I don't like the cold. But sometimes when life gets tiring, swimming helps to wake up. It exercises every part of your body.

Swimming has always been one of my favorite activities. I love the feeling of water. That's also why I take such long showers - it's just as much for relaxation as it is for getting clean.

I do, but I find public baths a bit icky, and there's people there, and I find other people's bodies offensive. Also, the levels of chlorine they put in the damn things is unpleasant.

you might actually want to add a touch more chlorine when you go swimming with me

I do try to avoid the public pools though, but not because of the chlorine, but because I once seen a person crap themselfs in a pool. Yellow water is one thing, but you never want to see the brown water! :eew: So, I just avoid public pools, as there is not enough chlorine in this world to take care of fecal matter, and the amount of filtering my lungs do 8O it would bring a whole knew meaning to the term 'lung biscuit'

Yeah I enjoy being in the water, even having a bath is enough for me. I used to love to put on my goofy flippers and swim laps with my mom at rec centers. Now I don't like going swimming because I don't feel comfortable being around so many people in the water in a bathing suit.
