who answers their own phone?

i guess i am technologically behind the times. this said, i hate being roused from a nice satisfying sleep to trip and stumble in the dark in pursuit of the ringing phone, only to have to deflect salecalls and prerecorded spiels telling me to vote for this jerk or that stupid initiative, or to suffer the occasional heaving-breathing ogre. so i use an answering machine to be my call-screening butler, freeing me to stay in bed and keep dreaming sweet dreams.

so this enquiring mind wants to know who else on WP uses an answering machine or a answering service to screen all their calls?

It depends really, I just answer most of the calls who I get on and who I'm familiar with... But the only thing is I can't STAND having to answer it, it makes me feel kinda nervous and yet I'm familiar with alot of prank calls so its most likely not going to work for me.

I however have an answer machine that makes you think that you are really talking to me until I say that I'm unavailable and this is voicemail and the amounts of funny responses I get from it is totally hilarious, it surprises most people.

I don't live alone so I don't answer the landline. They are 98% of the time not for me, so I don't bother. They are also about 50% to 60% calls from the same person -- my mom. So, I don't bother.

As for my cell phone... ugh, I don't answer and I rarely check my messages. I rely on caller I.D. to let me decide on whether or not I'll answer it.

The same as sketches. Except that I don't have a mobile anymore, I let it die and did not get another.

i prefer answering to phone...and hate talking to machines..so i usually just hang it up if there is machine

I answer my phone, most of the time, when it rings. I have call display, so I know which calls to answer and which ones to leave.

If it's my cell, and it's someone I know, then I answer it - otherwise I let my voicemail get it. Usually it's a telemarketer (I am on the Do Not Call list?)

If it's the home phone, and I know it's for me (it never is) then I answer it, but if it's not for me then I don't answer it.

I answer it but if I am too busy or I am sleeping, I let it ring and they can leave a message.

Me too, and I don't have a cell phone.

Funnily enough, when nobody else is home and the phone rings, I usually don't answer it either, because it always happens when I'm in the bathroom or something

I have to answer my own phone, because I have no answering machine or caller idee. I'm so very tired of that butt hole calling and hanging up every day. If I had a machine, I would let the machine take every call, because I prefer to wake up peacefully, not makeing my heart pound.

My own phone is my cell phone so yes, I answer it most times. The only times I don't answer it is when someone rings and it comes up as 'unknown number'. I like to know who's calling so I can be prepared what to say. 75% of the time it's my mum calling me, 20% of the time it's other people that I know and 5% of the time the ID is unknown.

I live with my parter and I normally let her deal with answering the landline, since normally it's my family (and we don't mix, unless I am prepared before hand) but my mobile, not a issue, since A) I don't have that many friends these days and B) the people who do know that number I can stand.

Oddly my partner is no good on the phone while I on the other hand are quite commanding and in being so, get the job of calling people and dealing with things (not that I like it but it works)

I hate the phone! Most calls are for my mom because I use email more than the phone. If the phone rings after a certain time I get panicky, but I think that is common. People who call after 9 PM usually have some urgent situation in my experience.

My household does not have a telephone, so we all use our cell phones. Most of the time I answer whenever my cell phone rings, even if it's a number I'm unfamiliar with. I'll only answer either of my parent's cell phones if they're not around to answer them.

I use a caller ID box, so that I can ignore calls from telemarketers and people that I don't know. I also use an answering machine to screen calls. I don't have many people calling, so I usually have a pretty good idea who it might be.

I never answer the house phone.
