I call myself stupid, jerk, ******* and other names but when people call me those, I don't like it. Is anyone else this way?

It can be difficult to interpret such from others. I have the benefit of reading my own mind.

I'm the same. I can call myself an idiot, stupid or a ret*d, but if someone else even hints at that than I get MAD!! !

It is rather strange though... Maybe we all have low self-confidence and would rather hear positive things from other people...

Everybody is that way. For me, I just don't like people telling me what I already know. :P

These same things also apply to me.

I don't insult myself.

Is your question about how others think about you?

Something I didn't mention in the last post: I don't mind it very often, actually. Insults and memetic exaggeration were popular distractions in my schools.

Likewise. It happens a lot.

I'm kinda like that, I call myself all sorts of names on a bad day but when someone says something really bad about me, I just wouldn't care unless it was a racist comment or anything like that, it would lead me to get annoyed or frustrated.

It also depends on my mood, in a very bad mood, I tend to be 2 times more sensitive than I'am already.

This in my opinion is evidence of a person not receiving acceptance either from parents, siblings and/or peers. You hear these things said about you when you're younger, and when you get older you repeat them to yourself. And, of course you can find plenty of evidence that what these things are true of you because that is what you are looking for. It's what you expect to find, so you do. When our daughter was born, I was determined that she wasn't going to go through what I did, so I tried to heap bucket loads of acceptance on her as she was growing up, so she would repeat to herself those kinds of things when she was older. The only problem with that approach was she had no way to understand her Dad's lack of confidence. Avoiding the problem in her did nothing to fix the problem in me.

What you need to do now is to change the message that you keep playing in your mind to yourself. Those things that you are telling yourself now, are bold face lies, and you need to stop talking to yourself like they are true. And trust me. I know it's not easy, but it's a step toward climbing out of your low self image.

Please forgive the lecture. I'm saying this to me too.

Probably a pretty common thing to do, you're sort of habituating yourself to the things that hurt you most. However it doesn't really work since hearing someone else say it is a totally different sensory experience.

-armchair psych out.

since it seemed to me then and now the rest of the whole wide world of sports was calling me these things, i wasn't about to pile-on also. no, i try to be nice to me. even when i fall down on the job. then i am especially nice to me. in fact i have been known to go in the opposite direction, blaming inanimate objects when i collide with them, e.g., "dumb damned door! get the HELL outa my way!"

Ya I can be self effacing, but the moment someone calls me anything then I am on them
