Whenever I go to public swimming areas, I always wear a shirt because I tend to be very self-conscious. I was wondering if there were any other guys who also prefer to go swimming with a shirt on.

When I'm with a group of friends I usually do. But then it usually ends up annoying me and it's too uncomfortable/hard to swim with, so I end up taking it off anyway. I'm a lot more comfortable with my body now then I used to be though. :]

I'm not a guy... but I think if I were to go swimming again, I'd probably wear one too to cover my body  . That or a wet suit.

Well, I wear those fitting thingies that surfers wear, as I'm pale and my chest, shoulders and back burn really easily (my arms and head are pretty good in the sun).

I'm not a guy, but I like to wear a shirt when I'm swimming, because I don't want to expose myself. If people see that I'm female, they will expect me to act female. I've always felt and acted male.

am curious as to why you are self-conscious. just look around you, there are bound to be the lion's share of folk who are not stepping out of sports illustrated.

Because I am naturally an angst-ridden person. Don't judge me!

I haven't been swimming in years, but I do it with my shirt off.

I say take your shirt off, unless you're afraid of burning. Nobody really cares, and you should be comfy. :)

i am sorry if i gave off the judgement vibe, i promise you that was the furthest thing from my mind. i am continually reminded that it is easy to rub folk the wrong way. sorry. i was only trying to spread the thought that people need to do what they feel like doing* and not worry about what others may or may not think.

*as long as nobody else is hurt

never was an adonis but i also never could stand being in the water with lots of cloth on me. shirts and baggy shorts feel gross and cause drag via waterlogging. just my 2-cents' worth. so i long-ago threw my shame away and just hopped in and swam 'till i was too tired to swim anymore.

I'm not male either but I hate swimming infront of anyone. I love to swim too. It's not that I look horrible, I don't. I just don't like anyone seeing me with a bathing suit on. I feel as if I'm in the nude. I have no problem wearing a wet suit in front of anyone.

I wasn't actually under the impression that you were judging me; I was just trying to be funny when I said "don't judge me!".

Not a guy, and no I never wear a shirt when swimming. I even brave wearing a bikini top sometimes. I wear board shorts though as I'm self conscious of my legs.
