When I was younger, I always swore I'd never become a fangirl for a male celebrity. All that changed the fateful day in late January when I decided to watch Edward Scissorhands on a whim. Now it's March and I've seen the majority of the films in which Johnny Depp has played a leading role. Why do I like him so much?

Well, for starters, he's very talented at being an actor. With the way he manipulates the pitch and accent of his voice and the level of depth he delves into his characters, I feel like I'm watching a different man in each of his movies. It's certainly a bonus that he's very easy on the eyes. His facial features - especially his eyes - are very soft, and yet he still has an air of masculinity about him.

And yet, although I admire Johnny very much, I would not want to get to know him personally. It's because I realize that he's a human being with real flaws, and I always want to keep my illusion of him as being "perfect". I prefer to admire him from afar and simply sit back and enjoy the wonderful work he does. :)

Here is a list of my top favorite Johnny Depp movies, in order:

1. Edward Scissorhands
2. Alice in Wonderland
3. Sweeney Todd
4. Pirates of the Caribbean
5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
6. Sleepy Hollow
7. Public Enemies
8. From Hell

I Love him as Sam. I have written B&J stories and have them posted at fanfiction.net.

He is quirky, that's what I like about him. Shame he doesn't have AS.

My aunt keeps telling me I should watch Benny & Joon. I've been thinking about writing fanfiction for my favorite Johnny Depp movies, but I'm hesitant because I'm afraid of my work getting criticized, esp. for the subject matter...

Yes, Johnny is rather quirky. I'm glad he is because it makes it easy for him to play quirky characters in movies. Even though he doesn't have AS, I have a feeling that his best friend Tim Burton might.

I love Johnny Depp. He does a really good job in Edward Scissorhands. I also like the movie, 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory'.

When you do see that movie and do fanfiction about it, I'd read it.

Tim Burton does have AS. Johnny Depp said so because over at AFF someone made a post telling about how she met JD and he picked up she had it and he said Tim Burton has it but he doesn't have it. I think he could have traits though.

I like the part that he plays in the 'Pirates of The Caribbean' movies. Is the captain drunk, or is he gay?

You'd be surprised at how often people ask that question. I guess it's a little bit of both. It's a known fact that Capt. Jack Sparrow really loves rum, and on the TV Tropes article for Pirates of the Caribbean, it says that Johnny Depp stated that Capt. Jack is bisexual.

I think Johnny Depp is an extremely talented actor - he never, ever seems to get typecast or sleepwalk his way through his work.

Also, I've noticed that most women I know seem to find him incredibly attractive. If they bottled what made this happen, it would make somebody very rich indeed :P

my sister's obsessed with him and is determined to watch every movie he's in. which is unfortunate because i won't let her watch fear and loathing until she's at least 18. i watched it when i was 15 and was very confused after watching it. i wouldn't even let my mother watch it because it baffled me so much. 5 watches later i now own the criterion collection of it. :D

my favorites are
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ed Wood
Benny and Joon
From Hell
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Sleepy Hollow
Dead Man(it's...an interesting movie.)

pirates of the carribean is something that i've watched waaaay too much. i'll give it honorary notice. i'll pretend like the pirates 2 doesn't exactly exist and pirates 3 doesn't exist at all.

Sounds like your sister and I would get along great! haha But, y'know, I'm hesitant to watch movies where Johnny plays characters that are relatively "normal", like in B&J and Gilbert Grape. I dunno why, but it seems that virtually all of my favorite movies, including ones without Johnny in them, include at the very least one major character who is a total weirdo/nutcase.

Most of you will happy/not happy, if you don't know already,
Pirates 4 will begin production in June.
{For a targeted release of Holidays 2011}

Yup I already knew about Pirates 4. Personally I think PotC should have stayed a trilogy. Now I think they're just trying to milk the franchise for all it's worth. Nonetheless, I am curious about the new plot and setting, and I do adore Capt. Jack, so I'll watch it anyway (I'll probably end up buying it too, since I have all the other PotC movies and I'm a completist). :)

supposedly IV is going to have a Steampunk sub-theme...anachronistic.
It's fun to watch him chew up the scenery...that's about it for me...

Speaking of upcoming Johnny Depp movies... Did you guys know that him and Tim Burton are collaborating on a movie adaptation of the 60s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows? Filming starts in September or October, if everything goes well with the 4th PotC movie. My mom and I are very excited about it and we're going to see it when it finally hits theatres... It's a long wait, but I'm willing to be patient to see Johnny play the vampire Barnabas Collins.
