Does this ad go too far?

okay, so, with your view of the seal hunt, and your view of the humankind's role and place on earth, do you think this anti seal-hunt ad by environmentalists is pushing things too far?

I don't think that it does. People need to be shocked, for the point to get acrossed.

An ad like this is fine, or else people won't get it. It's not a topic to be cute about. You can close your eyes to this, our meat industry and puppy mills, but it won't go away if you do that.

Not at all, I think it's very appropriate. And it would make a good album cover.

Nobody would think the advert was real, and it's obviously designed to get the point across.

The only problem I see is that no advert really changes people's minds on issues like this... everyone always sticks to their original guns. So a pro seal hunt person will get radically offended, and be hardened in their views, whereas an anti seal hunt person would be more likely to argue emotively rather than logically after seeing this.

For the record, I'm anti seal hunting. I'm also anti baby battering, and bad taste adverts.

So, perhaps the advert does more harm than good (from my point of view.)

If so, never mind.

I gets the point across.

The problem however is, what if...

1. You have never clubbed a seal and never plan on it.

2. You recently lost a child.

...yeah, that would make it unnecessarily disturbing.

I probably shouldn't but I'm finding this ad very funny. It's just too over the top. It's too ridiculous really to get its point across very well.

As for the question, it probably would offend sensitive people--not me though. I have no problem with seal hunting, but I won't try to argue my position here. I do find the ad logically flawed.

Nope. Material within social norms doesn't inspire change.

I'm missing a poll option for "if you're gonna use a dead baby in your advert, at least make it a good advert."

I'm going to say "not really". TBH, I don't like it at all, and I don't think it should be on TV, but it does make you think.

So wait. The situation is that instead of the human clubbing the seal, the seal clubs the human? That would mean the situations have turned, so the seal went to the human's natural habitat.

Why is that baby in an arctic climate?
Why has that baby planned on clubbing a seal?

It seems they threw in the baby element to sadden people. The day babies club seals, this advert will be relevant.

Not to mention, how is the baby in that position? It is laying on its right side, so that would mean it got hit on its left side, yes? Somehow the animal, who looks like it recently clubbed the baby, turned the baby over just in time for this candid snap-shot.

But seriously, who really believes that? Plants don't have nerves, central nervous systems, or even ganglionic centres dispersed throughout them (like shellfish say) which rather implies that they can't feel anything.

If something has no sentience, no biological reason to have evolved sentience, why would it be bothered about being eaten? Animals sense external stimuli and can react to it, because it improves their chances of survival. Plants don't sense external stimuli, and you'll never see them legging it away from the gardener. There would be no point for carrots to feel pain.

I'm sure the poster was just making a joke, but I had to say something, because I actually know people... and I'm not making this up... who honestly believe that plants feel pain!

Sheesh...

I'm off to make screaming carrot and chestnut soup.
