I have a nearly 23 year old son who was diagnosed with early onset bi polar disorder at age 12. It took me that long to get the right diagnosis, but by this time he had already started to use drugs to self medicate. His father was also bi polar and was very abusive to him. I am his only "person" I love him but I had to accept a few years ago that I cant help him. I did do all that I could for him. Looking back and knowing what I know now there were things I could have done but I was very young and no one was willing to help. Everyone just told me I spoiled him too much. He is in prison for the second time (for theft to get drugs). He has been an IV drug user (heroin and meth) since he was about 15. Most of the time I didnt know where he was for days or weeks at a time when he was a teenager. He now has Hepatitis C (from sharing needles) and no teeth (from the meth). We write back and forth, he has always been very protective of me, even standing up to his abusive father when he was only 4 years old when he tried to hit me. I enjoy his sense of humor and his intelligence. I dont "know" him when he is using but he is my son when he is clean....even when hes manic. He is always optimistic about getting better when he is in jail or prison but he just cant hold it together when he gets out. Since I am moving away to France maybe it will be better for him that he has to depend more on himself....or maybe worse. I will always hold hope that he will stay clean and take care of himself.
This song always reminds me of him....Its almost like he wrote the lyrics.

When I first heard this song I was in a really deep depression and my mom had somehow managed to drag me out shopping one day. While out, I saw Josh Groban's Awake CD, and having been a fan of his for a long time, but having been so depressed recently I hadn't even been aware he released a new album, I bought it and was really excited. In the car on the way home I put the disc in. When this song started playing and I heard the lyrics, I couldn't help but just cry. It was so relevant to my life at that moment and the fact that it was my favourite singer singing, it was overwhelming. The song still makes me cry when I remember that first time I heard it.

The story of your son is very moving. I hope he can sort his life out and be happy. :)

I find that music can reach me in ways that nothing else can....its like my wall gets taken down and I can "feel". I can see how that would be a very moving song at that period in your life. Im hope you are doing much better now!

I agree, music has a deep impact on me. During a different depression I was once so far gone that nothing at all was even remotely enjoyable and everything took too much effort. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me or the world and I didn't think I'd ever be happy. One day, while trying desperately to find something, anything, to evoke some emotion in me other than despair, I put on some music. I hadn't listened to music in months. I had forgotten how beautiful and healing it can be. It was the beginning of the process of coming out of that pit I was in, and I haven't been so low since. I listen to music every day now, without fail. I don't remember exactly what song it was that I played but I'm pretty sure it was Jason Mraz.

And yes, I am much better these days, except for recently with my very sick, elderly cat. :(

I have five cats and one just turned 15 and I decided that she is just too old to take to France with me so Im going to leave her here with my daughters. I would be afraid that the flight would just be too hard on her. My daughters were just little girls when we got her as a kitten. Im a certified cat lady so I can certainly empathize with feeling for your sick kitty so Im really sorry about that :(

Can't listen to this, much less watch him sing this without choking up.

Fiddler's Green is a legendary afterlife imagined by Cavalrymen, where there is perpetual mirth, a fiddle that never stops playing, and dancers who never tire. [wikipedia]

Singer is Gordon Downie, The song is about his sister's son, who died suddenly very young from a heart defect. The entire band knew him, and Gord's sister for most of her life.

They did not play this song for the album tour. In fact, it was a very long time before they did, because it was too emotional for all of them, but especially Gordon Downie.

Apparently they only do it on special occasions. Rumor has it, only after a beloved celebrity passes away.

I stuck the second vid in because it's hard to hear the words in the first one.

Read them first. Think about it. Put yourself in Gordon's shoes. Then listen, and tell me you didn't choke up. If you don't, yer heartless! :P

Here's the link.

This is a scene from a BBC children's programme called Raven. The warriors are:
Versad (Tree),
Hanso (Sun),
Danil (Cloud).
At this point, Danil was the warrior in last place, so he was the one who had to attempt The Way of the Warrior. Only four warriors in 10 series (this was the seventh) have ever succeeded in this challenge. And Danil was so close. I remember watching it on the television a while back, and I was gutted for him. I always have enjoyed watching Raven and had been following that series. He was a good warrior, such a nice warrior too. Truth be told, I wanted him to win and become the Ultimate Warrior. Bless him, he did so well, I was sad to see him go.

For those who are curious, it was Versad who won.

EDIT: Video didn't show, so I posted a link instead.

I want the old days back, when I was living with my parents, working at the factory, and I didn't have to worry about friendship troubles. This song reminds me of the 1996 Summer Olympics.
