Well...you live in New York...I don't blame you for feeling this way.

I can't say I'm really phased by news in terms of articles which might affect me because I live in a small rural town in OZ.

I wouldn't follow news media if you are easily upset. That's what its for. Better by far to focus on the positive things in life.

You should be scared for your life. You live right there. I'm scared for you, too.

I'm a news addict but it affects me more than I probably think.

I live here also and every time I ride the train I wonder if someone on board has a bomb. I scan the passengers to look for potential terrorists-- then I realize they are probably doing the same to me.

What's there to be afraid of?

I'm confused.

Recently, on the East Coast (NYC), terrorist threats, plots and attempts. Also, less notably, there have been bear sightings and coyote attacks on children (which is unusual and generally a non-threat)

Media tends to blow things out of proportion more often than you would expect. There's nothing to be scared of, and you sure as hell can't live in fear and function at the same time...just find something else besides the news to think about.

I have been scarred by the news in quite a different way. I saw a news story when I was like 8 about a dad carbon monoxide poisoning his mentally handicapped daughter and ever since I've been terrified of car exhaust. This has only been further reinforced by news stories like one where a kid was playing gameboy on his family's boat and he passed out from exhaust fumes and fell overboard and drowned and another story about "teak surfing".
