Do you like music with a beat or without it?

I personally like music with a strong, distinctive, possibly quirky beat.

The reason for asking this question is that I'm super curious - does anyone like music without a beat, or do any of you even dislike music with a beat? If so, why?

(my personal preferences are rock/pop, remixes, some hip hop, etc)

Depends on my mood, really. There's good and bad music of both kinds.

It bothers me if music doesn't have an intended beat and it doesn't sound good that way. I don't mind the beat changing, but I also don't mind music without a specific beat that flows beautifully. I guess it depends.

I prefer to listen to music that has a beat, guitars, a bass and the odd organ. 8)

A good beat is a must for the majority of songs that I listen to. There are some very good songs without beats (particularly when I'm feeling moody), but I generally tire of them much more quickly than I tire of my techno and hip-hop music.

I'm a DJ, and I love music with good beats!

My favorite (yet its too cheesy) Beats-per minute (BPM) is at 128

Oh gosh I remember when that song came out... I used to listen to it all the time. Now that I'm an adult I find it kind of annoying and I wonder why I ever liked it in the first place...

Is there music that does NOT have a beat?

Obviously some music has more of an emphasis on the beat than does others ( usually the tradeoff is beat at the expense of melody, or vice versa).

But is there music that is totally a-rythmic?

Can someone give examples?

Maybe operatic music- arias- and the like- are for practile purposes-without a beat. You dont listen to Le Mis for the funky beat of the music I suppose.

This is probably one of the first ones that come to mind. There are lots of them, though.

If it has a good solid beat then of course i like it also with some bass and a nice melody to go with it.

I personally prefer music with a beat to it. I'm more about the music than the lyrics.

i like all music that is NOT rap/hiphop or what passes for country in the last 30 years or so. there is a place for both rhythmic and non-rhythmic musics, each has a different purpose, a different story to tell.
