Since I'm here, let the glorious internets help.

I need a good topic for a persuasive speech I have to make.
I'm having trouble narrowing down a good topic. I don't want to do something that's been over done like heath care or abortion... but it has to something concise and something that can pertain to the general populace.
I'm terrible at finding topics... but I know once I get focused one I can put it together well...

Suggestions?

How so?
You mean between partners or straight/gay marriage?

establishing a nationwide public transportation system out of interconnecting local county transit bus systems? It would make travelling across the country, or even just across your local county relatively easy. A person could then easily travel to anywhere in the country even if they don't own a car.

public transportation between cities where i live is fairly established in my county, but i know alot of counties in this state and others that are either lacking or hideously inadequate.

Well, I was talking about legalizing same sex marriage, but the other one sounds good too. It pertains to more people, as well.

Past hour I've been looking into the implementation of High Speed Rail in the US. It's an interesting topic but I'm trying to figure out how to tie it into a call for immediate action(which is sort of a requirement)... It's not like I can just say to average people, "Hey make HSR happen, now!" even though isn't a way to make it immediately happen... maybe I'm thinking too hard about it. It is making my head hurt.

Hmm... Well the gay marriage issue has been well debated. I'm in favor of it, but I'm not sure what kind of creative twist I could add to it.

Or rather than one large nationwide rail service which would take forever to complete, perhaps start at the state level & integrate systems as it goes?

I was reading some more and got an idea of modifying the current existing HSR plan to use mag-lev trains. I was thinking that since mag-lev trains can run on an elevated track, they could theoretically be above or near the current existing rail system or even the interstate highway system without having to induce major changes to the current rail system and/or rezone nearby properties for creating new track.

Currently the only HSR(and a stretch at that) is Amtrak's Acela Express from Boston to New York. However it truly pales in comparison to modern HSR systems in Europe and Asia. Part of the problem in implementing it though is that dedicated track has to created for HSR trains since the current rail system can't support modern high speed trains... So I was thinking that perhaps a mag-lev train might be a better alternative since it wouldn't require the existing rail tracks to be modified or expanded. That and mag-levs are just as fast as the HSR trains.

... but again I'm not really sure how to tell people to support such a plan though. Write your congressman? ... I think I need to come with something better than that.

prolly first get a petition with a shit-ton of signatures and then see the congressman?
