Either that or I'm really sick.

Whatever it is, I'm thinking of taking placebos for it, but I've heard they can make you high, and I'm afraid of becoming addicted.

What should I do? 8O

If you know that you take placebo, it's not placebo anymore.

Take 650 mg of acetylsalicylic acid and 226 g dihydrogen monoxide and call me in the morning.

Go ahead and take the placebo. If you do get addicted then you can do like Rush Limbaugh and go into rehab.
Also I think xanax will counter act the effect.

My brother has hypochondriac tendencies. Every time he gets a headache he worries that it's a brain tumor. Evil Me saw a book, a sort of bible for hypochondriacs, that listed all the horrible things that might be associated with everyday mundane symptoms, and thought about giving it to him.

Thanks everybody. I know you've only got my best interests in mind, but I've decided to go with an experimental treatment.

I'm gonna pretend to take the placebos. If I start pretending to be addicted to them, I'll pretend to go to rehab.

Even though this is all just hypothetical, I'm pretty sure I'm eventually going to die no matter what I do.

In all seriousness (sort of), I went to see a psychologist last week as part of ASD screening and evaluation. One thing she mentioned was that she noticed I scored quite high for hypochondriasis. Well, she said it was either that or I have real medical problems.

I managed to hold back the very loud, "Well, DUH!" in my head, but out of curiosity, a few days later I decided, just for the hell of it, to look up some info on line, and took an online screening quiz.

I had to laugh when the answer came back, "You are either highly likely to be a hypochondriac, or you have genuine health problems. You should see a doctor." Same the thing the doctor told me last week.

Of course! What other result could there be, except for "You aren't likely a hypochondriac, and are probably in good health?"

It kind of makes me wonder what use it is to even attempt to screen or evaluate hypochondriasis.

Seems to make about as much sense as screening for liars by asking people if they are liars. I don't mean that hypochondriacs are liars, just that screening for them in this manner makes about as much sense.

Even though I got a bit of a chuckle out of it, it is a little concerning to me that psychologists would be looking for it on a psych evaluation, when the only way to really know is go to a physician and get a thorough check up done.
