...a teacher yelled and told you that your opinions were 'incorrect' after you calmly tried to explain your reasoning?
Or if this has happened to you, what did you do/how did you handle it?

Well I got yelled at by teachers for not expressing my opinion. Ok maybe not yelled, but they did have some hurtful things to say because I was silent all of the time and they kept complaining because I was "zoned out"/daydreaming whatever you wanna call it, as a result of my peculiar stare. In school no matter how little we want to believe it, following a certain, more prominent train of thought is always regarded as better.

My English teacher once told us that when she was in school she answered a question in a test which required you to give your opinion. You know those questions where there is no wrong answer, providing you provide enough facts to back up your response. She replied with an answer which did not follow the conventional train of thought, and she got low marks. She advised us that even though in these questions, which you are supposed to give your opinion and there is no wrong or right answer, the truth is that sharing the same opinion of the teacher and/or establishment is always regarded as better, and you are more likely to score higher marks.

I would handle it by curling up into a ball and crying.

I have had that happen. I just shut down. I don't like being yelled at, especially if I haven't done anything wrong.

I would correct that particular teacher; on the knowledge of it is impossible for an opinion to be incorrect. When one says his opinion he is stating a true statement; however when one states a fact it is a true statement that can be proving.

I'd probably break down and cry.

QFT

Most teachers I've had don't have a problem with being corrected; they don't want to teach the wrong thing to the class. But there was one teacher who absolutely hated me and got mad whenever I tried to correct her even when her whatever was obviously wrong.

I would just be quiet and not speak in class again.

I'd argue back & end up getting in trouble

You must be, said the Cat, or you wouldn't have come here.

Let it go. Examine things later with a clear head. Maybe end up accepting that I was wrong or that the teacher was wrong.
