We can have avatars but not signature pictures. Does anyone know why? Is it about bandwidth? I am creative and like to design my own. Many other forums allow sigpics but some do not. It is a pity, I think.

It may be cuz of the server; it gets over loaded every hour or so

here is a suggestion

I can understand if the sigs were on the WP webserver but have it to were the person has to have there sig on a hosting site like Dropbox, picasa, or photobucket. In that way the website just tells the Persons browser don't download from the WP download here to the image hoster. like the [ img ] tag or < img src = " " > and have it to were the person can't host there sig on the wrongplanet website were it chew up cpu cycles and bandwidth. The way I am suggesting would prevent the webspace to overload more then normal.

the forum looks like a phpBB or invision Powerboard based with eaither those 2 I think there is a way to do that.

I thought that hosting was the way most forums use for siggies. Only the avatars are usually uploaded from the users pc onto the site's own disk space. This is why I was asking because a signature picture would simply be a pasted link into the codebox [profile] and then linked to the image host.

I was told that it was too distracting, nah, that can't be true?

Agreed. Also some people would have offensive pix or ones that might be very big as well that could cause problems. Mine might would be inappropriate

I think the looping ones would attract me the most [in avatars] like especially holograms!

There are/would be rules on sizes etc for signature pictures and rules about content and would be approved before they were allowed [or have to be], maybe there could be something embedded so that once you chose your signature picture then it could not be changed again?

I know what Nick007 means on profanities, at the music board I belong to, they have software that edits out stuff if you wrote certain words. Just the other day when I was writing a review and wrote "at the fag-end of our summer", one word received ***... it is considered homophobic and offensive you see.

So I don't know - there are pros and cons - I think it would just be nice if we could have them where most other places do allow them.

I wouldn't mind sigpics if there were a limit on size, and no animated gifs.

No-one is forcing you to look. You don't have to like something to be able to learn from it.

Sigpics are nothing but a vanity thing for DumbAsses, that add nothing to a forum except make member feel they are
somehow more edgy. WP is slow enough without the added animated gifs littering up the place, I could just imagine
how slow pages would load if we had them here, its rather annoying seeing a page filled with spam posts and a bunch
of flashing blinking gif images.
