O.B.E. or N.D.E.s
I have experienced 3 OBEs and one NDE.
I am working to learn AP and OBE more on demand and controlled.
Anyone on the Spectrum had any experience with Out of Body or Astral Projection?
Is it more frequent or easier for Spectrum people to do APs or harder?
Just curious.

I tried to find if this has been covered before, but there are a lot of subjects in this Discussion, and I figured I'd forget what I wanted to post if I searched through them all.
Cool. What where they like? Briefly.
I am interested in the subject. Don't think I've had one that I've been aware of. What actions do you suggest a person who wanted to induce AP or OOBE should take?
Don't know.

I think it's fun when new threads come around.

Though I find OBEs intriguing, I've never experienced one.
I suppose I've never truly had a near-death experience, either, but there was one occasion when I sincerely felt as though I was dying (and not in the "I'm so sick and miserable, I want to die" way). I think that was the only time in my life that I ever grabbed my mother's hand. It must have been, because when I did so, she immediately took me to the hospital.

I have known several people who have had one or the other. Some who's reliability was impeccable. One is a brother of
mine who dismissed it as a dream. I have had 2 split second sensations of being outside my body both right before fainting. I heard
a ringing in my ears and then for a second I was looking at myself falling. I was in a public place both times, not drowsing in bed.

My first one happened just after I attended a meeting with a group of people who talked about Soul Travel.
I got home after the meeting and really wondered if there was anything to it, sat on the edge of my bed, and laid back.
I closed my eyes, and relaxed. I asked the question, "Is there anything to this Astral Projection or Soul Travel stuff?"
I felt movement, and I appeared to be traveling through gauze curtains or something filmy.
(It was like a camera zoom in type of motion, but I was still aware of the pressure of my bed on my back).
The motion slowed to a stop, and the darkness around me began to drift from in front of me, revealing a very old man, standing among rocks and stones (like in a mountain area). He was surrounded by a gentle orange glow, like firelight, reflected from the rock face. He appeared to be teaching some people clustered at his feet, but I couldn't hear what he was saying.
I said to myself "Wow, this is neat." He immediately looked right at me, smiled, and said, "Soon, but not yet." He waved his arm, and the scene faded out. I sat up in bed.
That was my first OBE, but not my last.
I cannot convince anyone else how real it was, but it started me on my current journey.
As far as how to do it, I'm currently reading a book mentioned on the My-Big-Toe.com web site, titled Adventures Beyond the Body: How to Experience Out-of-Body Travel. By William L. Buhlman
The technique he says works best for him is to go to bed, and lay down, close your eyes, relax and repeat 40 or 50 times "I am out of my body." Then he drifts off to sleep. During the night he wakes up, feeling vibration, and hearing a humming sound as his subtle body disengages with his physical body. There are different techniques used by various people to complete the departure, but in every case, thinking about your physical body will bring you back into it immediately. He suggests trying this for 30 days - it may take some time before you can do it.
Hope I didn't bore you with the long post, but that's it.

Yes, that ringing is something I've heard, and people have reported it as happening to them as they start to leave their body. I think experiences like that are really positive, and hopefully it didn't trouble you or cause you any distress. If you are interested in learning how to do it, you can. If it bothered you, then you don't have to pursue it. Just be aware that you are not alone in your experience.

I assume that's something like a French kiss, but done with Kilts and bagpipes???
From my FB quotes:
"If you're a Scot, the sound of the pipes brings tears to your eyes.
If you're NOT a Scot the sound of the pipes brings tears to your eyes."

rchamberlin, your OBE sounds really cool. I wish something like that would happen to me.
I did have a NDE once though. I almost choked to death on a hard candy when I was 9 years old. It was completely stuck in my windpipe and no matter how hard I coughed and gagged, I couldn't get it out. After a couple of minutes, my field of vision started going hazy and dark. I was almost certain that I was going to die. But a strong man gave me the Heimlich Maneuver and it saved my life.
To this day it is still the most horrifying thing I've ever experienced, and I still think I almost died. My sister tells me the experience wasn't that dramatic, but what does she know? It didn't happen to her.
I've been near death before, but I wouldn't called it a "near death experience".
I've always been too chicken to experiment with astral projection...I'm always afraid I'll float off somewhere and never come back
Maybe some day when I'm an old fogey and I don't mind if I don't come back or not @_@
I've had a few OBEs. I think the most interesting one happened in the middle of sleeping one night...I thought I had woken up, but everything was dark, fuzzy, and phosphorescent blue, like when I usually have an OBE. I walked around the house for a while, and tried to do some stuff, but none of the light switches would work. Eventually I went back into my room and went back to sleep, and then came the usual darkness between falling asleep and having your "right before awaking" dream...which made it especially odd, because if the OBE was only a dream, I wouldn't have remembered it because, well, I could be wrong, but apparently the only way you can remember a dream is if you wake up during it.

Actually, I've been near death several times myself, but the typical NDE is more than a brush with death.
It usually means the person experiencing it does something like dies on an operating table, leaves their body, is able to see the frantic medical activity around them, may or may not experience traveling through a tunnel with a light at the end, and meeting someone radiating great love and acceptance. They then are told they aren't supposed to be there yet, and have to go back. They then travel back, and usually experience the resuscitation pains.
Mine was not a typical NDE - it was last February and I was in the hospital drifting in and out of consciousness. I remember feeling, not hearing, and not seeing anybody, but getting the feeling that I had gone through enough and I could choose to keep on with life or go to the other side - it was my choice. I decided to go on living, and immediately I began to recover. While not a typical NDE, I count it as such.
At the time, I did not think it was cool, and there was a lot of stuff I went through to get back home.
It's just that it confirmed to me that I am much more than a physical body, but that I am a spiritual individual who has a physical body. Some day, that physical body will stop working, and I'll be free to move on to my next learning experiences.
The knowledge of Astral Projection or Out of Body Travel gives me a taste of the next existence.
I suspect that the longer I stay here, and learn my lessons, and experience the things I need to experience here, the better and richer the next reality will be.
Your results may vary.

Done with the forehead.
I know someone with an MBE. He has it framed on the toilet wall.
Out of body experience, I don't recall. I believe in their subjective reality, of course, but AFAIK noone's ever reliably demonstrated anything more; there'd be a million dollars in it for them, or whatever the prize is these days.

My understanding is that you cannot prove a Macro reality using only the rules of the enclosed (or micro) reality.
The only proof possible is:
Practice OBE or Astral Projection until you can travel to the moon. Go to the site of the last Apollo module landing - let that be your proof of OBEs.
What I mean with this example is that I know what I have experienced but there is no way I can prove it to you with the rigor required by current scientific dogma. But, once you have experienced it for yourself, that should be proof enough for you, and should no longer require any proof from me.
But, science requires physical proof such as bringing back a flower from the moon to prove I've been there.
And, yes, I guess if you could bring back a flower from the moon as proof of astral travel, you could claim the million dollar prize.
Of course I'm sure some scientist would come up with an argument preventing the award of the prize.
Like for example, We know there are no flowers on the moon, so you couldn't have brought one back!! !
That's the story of my life.

Ah - I wouldn't consider my own belief in an experience like that as adequate proof, even for myself - I would want to bring that flower back. Or perhaps more practically, I'd want to know the contents of locked boxes, or something similar. If I suddenly found myself dreaming (or out of body, or hearing voices, or whatever) and emerged knowing some substantial and very specific information about something I could have no way of knowing about, then that'd certainly do me. Otherwise it has to remain a "maybe" because one piece of truth almost everyone knows from their own experience is that the brain can fool us, sometimes very convincingly, into believing we're somewhere else and construct a "micro reality" any time we go to sleep...
(my own count is apparently seeing a ghost and some instances of what felt like precognition and telepathy - but nothing I wouldn't put past my own head!)
Heh. I'd heard whoever offers that prize has a habit of moving the goalposts, so I wouldn't be surprised. It's probably a bad example to use.
