I grew up with a Kirby Classic (bought 3 months before I was born). I was obsessed with that vacuum -- so shinny, such a wonderful sound. My mom told me when I was about two, we were moving, and I slept in the in the back of the station wagon with the vacuum. In fact, when I was older my mom would punish me by not letting me vacuum. I currently own a Kirby Heritage (circa 1984) that I bought on eBay and refurbished.

Anyone else into vacuums?

I also love vacuum cleaners. I like to look at images of vintage vaccums on Google Images.

I am the same way. I have found a couple of websites dedicated to older vacuums and their history. I also look on eBay and Craigslist a lot to see what is up for sale. My Mom gave me the vacuum that started my love affair, but I threw it away because my family -- especially my Mom -- was such a pain in the ass growing up. So I found a vacuum that suited me even better.

I think it's cool that you're passionate about vacuums. I think you might like this video:

IdahoRose,

Thank you so much for this video! At one time I had eight vacuums, but due to a storage mishap, I am down to just one. Plus my wife said no more vacuums (at least for a little while). My true prized possessions are two vintage Barbie vacuums circa 1974-1976 . I have two of them and I found both on eBay. They are toys of course, but they are also real "working" vacuums. They run on 2 C batteries and do generate suction. They are canisters with a hose and a floor attachment. Pink in color of course. I lost my original years ago (actually, I think my Dad threw it away .. a boy with a girls toy, OMG) but I could never get the wonderful scent they made out of my mind. That little vacuum was the best gift I ever received.

Thank you again. Hey, by the way, I am in Eastern Washington ... we are almost neighbors.

-Johnathan

You're welcome! Glad you liked the video Johnathan! I saw that on TV a few years ago, and I remembered it when I saw this thread. I wasn't sure if you had seen it or not, but I felt like you would enjoy it anyway. :)

I was into vacuums when I was 4-5 something years old. Now it's cars and anything with a computer inside.

I am really into cars as well. I used to work for an electronics and chip manufacturer until 2002, so I am pretty interested in computers. Part of my job was to attend MacWorld Expo in San Francisco and New York ever year. It was a lot of fun.

I was really into vacuums when I was little, but my parents made me give that up. It's a shame they could never figure out why.

There's a vacuum cleaner museum in Missouri.

I saw a morning show bit about a little boy who collected vacuum cleaners a long time ago. . .

Anyway, I dislike vacuum cleaners because of the noise. When I was little, I was similar to the pets when it came to the vacuum cleaner. "She's vacuuming again... 8O RUN and HIDE!" heh Sensory issues.
