Do you get any if you are a teen? Or did you when you were younger? How much and how often? Back when I was a school aged child and later a teen, my grandma used to give me a lot of money - actually it was a big part of her (low) retirement benefits. But, of course, I never spent it in any way, saving all I got to be able to afford something I wanted to have - a TV set, cabinet, bookshelves, stereo storage unit, radio, computer... So I didn't feel that money was actually my own; it just lay in my red purse in the cabinet awaiting the time when I had enough to be able to buy something.

In high school I got some money to be able to buy something to eat every day but I saved every coin I got to buy something else than foodstuff - not as expensive as the things from my first example, typically these were things like books from a bookstore I passed going to school, cd's, joke booklets, stuff from the shop selling suvenirs and funny gadgets which was close to our school when it was moved to a new building when I went to the last but one class. I had a list with things I wanted to have recorded on it and every time I bought something out of them, I ticked the entry off. I think I also got some pocket money for food from our school store in the last grades of our elementary school (which back then consisted of 8 grades, now of 6) but I don't remember.

Got a weekly allowance till I was 12 as long as my chores were done. But started doing some work when I was 12, mowing lawns and other yard work in the neighborhood and would go door to door in the winter when ever it snowed offering to shovel for a few bucks. Also delivered the local paper a few times a week.

Nope. allowance was unheard of, mostley because we were expected to do chores for free.

No, but I had to do something rewarding to earn it and all my hard works got me something in the end.

Interesting: I just realized I never got an allowance and that's probably how I became the dullard I am today. All my basic needs were met, but there was never money for extras, except out of $20-$50 sums received on birthdays and Christmas. As I had no desire to hang out with the other kids or buy shiny new consumer goods, I didn't feel deprived, yet the question set me wondering--how much of my avoidance of spending situations is innate and how much was learned as a child?

I got about $5 a week for a year years (I don't remember exactly when, but if I had to guess, I'd say between the ages of 10 and 15). It went up to $7 a week if I had mowed (for a couple years, anyway; at first, it remained the same). Once I got a job at age 16, that stopped, though I still did the same chores. My mother still gave me money for school lunches, but I bought my own clothing and if I wanted to see a movie, I paid my own way, etc, etc.
