As private space begins to run out, people will probably start exploring alternative living spaces to combat overcrowding, crime, and quality of life. Would you like to live in one of these places?

Underwater would be amazing, when I was little I always wanted to be a mermaid like in Andersen's tale, and couldn't understand why she wanted to live in the human world so much!

Yo preferiría vivir en la luna, pero no es posible. :(

Maybe underground? But I like to breath fresh air and it could be a problem if I lived under ground. Underwater sounds great, but I'd be afraid of drowning. I can swim, but I can't breath in the water, I'm not a fish.

Underground, like in the foundation series by Isaac Asimov.

Nothing underground or underwater or out in space unless are extremely highly developed environments with lots and lots of air and space to move around; I quickly feel claustrophobic when think I can't get "out" of somewhere, except with lots of equipment. I loathe air-conditioning and would probably hate plastic/fibre-glass/metal walls everywhere too.

Tree-tops sound good but rather limited.

I vote for mountains/islands in the air like in Miyazaki's "Laputa/Castle in the Sky", or "Avatar" or that planet in SG-1 with those elven-like hippie-style aliens that heal with auras. :)

Lived in a basement (well, kitchen and bathroom were above ground level) for a couple of years and the nice thing about living under/in the ground is that there is little noise coming in from outside. Also the temperature was moderate and stayed about 14*C year round (little fluc. T-wise between Winter and Summer).

Well, minus point in this neck of the woods is that a basement or something alike living underground, the space, tends to be quite humid and mould can be a bit of a problem. Yet I choose having a home underground here.. with a good ventilation system.. cos the others seem a bit impractical to me. (Um, a home underwater would be awesome probably)

I always thought that living in a tree canopy would be cool. Unless I fell or something.

I voted for living on other planets. Living in outer space sounds exciting. If such a project were to develop sometime in the near future, I'd definitely volunteer to take part.

I'd love to be living on in a space station. It would remind me of the Star Trek of the 60s.

Living underwater or in space sound interesting, but too high tech and highly regulated for me. Give me a weathered houseboat back in the swamps where I can catch dinner off the back porch with a cane pole instead.

I'd be willing to try living in any of those places! I'd want to try living in the treetops, because I love trees, but I would also fear falling. Similarly, living underwater really appeals to me, but I would probably feel claustrophobic. I would want a room (or maybe the whole "house") to be entirely made of glass, so that I could simply sit and watch the sea and its creatures. More realistically, I've always really liked the idea of Hobbit Hole-style houses. If I were rich, I think maybe I'd have one of those built for me. I'll bet it would be very cozy; enclosed, Earthy.

Andersen's original was so much better than the Disney version.

I use to pretend that I lived up in trees when I was a child, I loved climbing trees. I still think it's a cool idea to live up in the trees.
