we used something like that in the boy scouts

camp fires work better :D

Solar cookers may work ok in Tx or most parts of Australia, but I somehow doubt they would be all that reliable in, say, Oregon :?

I live about halfway between Seattle and Alaska. I don't think it would work too well here.

I think they can be used alot more locations and times of the year than people might
image. I think in the Southern US they would be very practical at least 8 months of the year.

If people read any of the plans they would see a basic one can be made from old
card board boxes, aluminium foil and a clear plastic cooking bag. I'm going to build one
and demo it for my 3 and 5 year old nephews.

I like the plans for a simple water pasteuriser how it mentions an old chip bag that is foil
line makes a good reflector.

another fun thing is to distill water ... condensation trap
dig a hole, put green foliage in it, cover with plastic, collect water in a tin ... (survival tequnique if you are stuck in an arid region)
Again, boy scout type of thing.

I made a mini-solar box cooker out of a Office Depot paper box. Its about 18" x 10" I guess. I need to get a plastic cover for the window when I walk my dogs in a few hours.
So I plan to be cooking in about 9 hours!
