We hold on to things the tightest, when we are forced to let them go-
we always want things a certain way,
when we know they can't be so.

Dreams alaways last the longest,
when they are furthest from our reach-
and the lessons we can learn the most from,
are often the very ones we teach.

The grass is always the greenest,
when it lies on the otherside-
and the truths we preach to others,
are often those we cant abide.

We hold fast to the things in a storm,
which are most likely to blow away-
and yet we neglect to wear sunscreen,
on a bright and sunny day.

We spend our time trying to see things,
when perspective is one thing we lack-
and we never appreciate what we've got,
until we can't get it back.

We expect the whole world to give us a break,
and yet ironically we'll find-
that when others comwe asking the same of us,
we tell them they're out of their mind.

We tell everyone whats wrong with the world,
and we do nothing to make it right-
we complain about families falling apart,
and yet do nothing to keep them tight.

We preach about loving ouit nieghbors,
and we teach children right from wrong-
But we never set good examples for them,
when real chances come along.

We complain about not having enough time in our lives,
to do what we must do-
yet if we were given more hours in the day,
we'd use up all that, too.

We desire to be close to all those we love,
yet all too often look on from afar-
and when it comes to the truth do we want to change,
or remain forever as we are?

When things or people are lost in our life
Usually the ones we love are causing the strife
When we try to control what is meant to be
People act out in anger, in disharmony




The dreams of our heart often seem out of range
But some lie within our grasp if we're willing to change
The lessons that we learn form others play a big part
If we let the ideas flow into our mind and sink into our heart



We need to see that all the grass in the world is brown,
and that others are also looking at their neighbors ground
If we can't follow the truth point to someone who can
And they will be the liar, for there is no perfect (wo)man




Holding on to nothing, has its time and place
But if we didn't care about anything, we wouldn't be the human race
We neglect the small details for the big ones can't you see
So in the end sunscreen is not as important as humanity



If we never were to look, we wouldn't understand
That knowledge and perspective go hand in hand
I'll agree with you on the third and fourth line
And nothing but gratitude will make the problem fine



We should not expect karma to help us out,
when that is not what our personality is about
but if everyone started to really truly care
The opportunities we would get would still not be fair



Or worse we are apathetic, we pay no heed
and it is most important to plant the caring seed
For when those seeds are planted, they spark a thought
and make people think about what they've got



We try our best to live what we say
But everyone will eventually make a mistake
If we change our ways, and try to repent
Then, someday we will not be a hypocrite



We spend our time with trivial things to do
But in the end, there are important things to get through
When all is said and done in our long and boring day
It matters most if we tried to help others on their way



We often try our best to be everything
In the end, we fall short, and the negative angels sing
As long as we wake-up each day, and try a new start
We will give all that we've got and have a good heart
