I have inherited 1/3rd of my father's retirement portfolio. On paper, I'd have enough money to live off for two years if I totally cashed out and didn't work. Having this amount of money to fall back on changes your life and how you look at it. I've heard it described as f**k you money as it's money you can fall back on if you're in a job you don't like can no longer hold yourself back from dropping an f-bomb at your boss. Seeing that I'm in between jobs, my brand of f**k you money provides the kind of empowerment where if I don't like they recruiting agency I'm working with, I can tell them to p**s off with little regrets. Same goes for job opportunities that are not aspie-friendly and set me up for failure.

I can't describe how this feels. For the first time in years, I feel as though I have a handle on the direction my life is going and the options it presents. How much f**k you money would you need to live an empowered life where you no longer had to whore yourself out too make a living?

Depends on your definition of make a living. Could be a couple hundred bucks with the right investments, could be a couple thousand for getting machinists tools to become my own boss and ditch the scrap trade I've grown to love and it could very well be in the tens of thousands assuming my mom kicks me out upon finding out I bought myself machining tools and I need to find a place to live, pay utilities, etc.

sufficient f/u duckies would be enough to live in a tin can out in the woods and live a very simple life with no frills. in general, to do this in a cheap cost-of-living area of the country will require at least $300k with which to invest in dividend-bearing financial instruments. if you want decent health insurance, add another $700k. out of reach for me.

Those are my sentiments about money. I'm doing something about it, though. I have a budget planed out, for the next 4 months. I'll spend money on the things that I absolutely need and save the rest of my money.

I would suggest getting a part-time job or a job that doesn't have good pay but is likable & try to live off that money & only use the fU for emergencies or major things like buying a house or a reliable vehicle.

The American government believes disabled people can live off of $674 a month; that's the maximum amount for SSI for one single individual. I'm getting $795 a month for Social Security Disability & I'm extremely lucky that I'm able to live with my parents rent free & only have to pay the cable/net bill, my cell bill & all my personal stuff. I don't know how anyone can survive off $674 a month without assistance from someone else but lots of disableds somehow manage to get by with that. If anyone has money they don't need; I could use five thousand to completely pay off all my debt that I ran up a couple years ago :chin: I'm just tossing it out there

many SSI recipients are either homeless or living with parents/friends or in subsidized apartments. it is a tough row to hoe.
