I have been at a friends house for the holidays and for some reason the power is going out it is out right now from eaither the power company messing with the grid or the recent storms are doing it. The only way I am on right now during one is I have my Netbook and my Virgin Mobile Data card for the web. I was reading the forms on my main Tower that I took down here and the power went out and I know that is bad on the hard drives and everything else.

(Raises hand) Oh! Oh! Right here! Me, me, me! The small ones that last for a few seconds are as annoying as they are disruptive.

On the one hand, they take me away from my precious internet. On the other, they take away my primary procrastination unit. I can go and do something more useful when it's off

I have no idea what I would do right now if the power went out right here, but with my own "primary procrastination unit" thus down, I just might finally get back to work on my ad-hoc battery-backup-power-supply system and ultimately check into something like Virgin Mobile ... but first I would have to do something about heating this place before I might shiver to death.

I also hate them. I can't go on the Internet and I have to set all my clocks afterwards.

I think we've had 2 power outages in the last 10 years. Underground lines rock! :D

We would have a dozen or so a year.

When doing a siding remodel on my house , I was replacing the doors, and 'boom', no power again. I had the front door off and it was getting dark and the mosquitoes were coming in.

Waited 2 hours for the restoration so I could get back to work.

I ended up installing a backup generator due to this instance, (and because lack of heat in winter, and lack of water due to well).

Funnily, the moment I installed the generator, the power outages went to around 3 in a 7 year time frame.

Annoying, but only when they happen when it's dark (I can't read, and I can't use the computer :( .)

Depends. I like the quietness of everything and the candles at first, but after about twenty-five or thirty minutes, it can get annoying.

We have about 30 outages a year here for various reasons... We are constantly having to replace our surge protectors because of them too. The one biggie cause of the outages is one popular power pole that all the drunks like to take out on a regular basis. Last one was so talented he only took out the middle with his vehicle, leaving the top 6 ft dangling from the wires above. That stuntman-wannabe move took 17 hours to fix.

I hate 'em because the Inner Fussbudget starts to stew on the question, "Is my power out or is everyone's power out?" and its supplement, "Should I call the power company or do they already know?" A daytime outage for no apparent reason will soon have me emotionally drained. Of course, I could call or walk next door and put the issue to rest, but nothing will make me cross the Great Divide.

My entire family and I really, REALLY hate power outages, due to the fact that we have a fish farm and every time the power even flickers out we have to reset pumps and monitors. And if the power stays off for a longer period of time it's an absolute nightmare, because then the oxygen systems are off and the emergency soaker hoses only keep up with our volume of fish for so long. Only now are we starting to install generators, and now that we think about it, we should have done so a lot sooner. We heard recently that a town about 45 mins. from ours had their power turned off for about 5 hours, which our fish absolutely CANNOT survive.

I hate them. But if they happen for a few seconds I am fine with it. It just better not happen when I am in my middle of the video game or while I am saving.

I have power-outages a lot in my area. It's kinda a rural area & we're at the end of the line & there's no businesses here so we get lowest priority. There's lots of trees around here compared to other states & that can cause problems when the weather is bad. We're also on a major highway & it's not uncommon to have accidents here where people hit the polls(I think cuz their drunk). I got a UPS for my computer years ago because the power would flicker a bit every few days & it was just enough to screw stuff up. I lose net when the power goes out because I have cable & there's a relay/booster thing for signal down the road that uses power. I can still use my comp for about an hour thou so that's good. What really sux is hurricanes; I live in south Louisiana. We're without power for a couple weeks. Have a generator so we can run freezers, refrigerator & stuff periodically but I would NOT use it to power anything like a computer. It's also hot & humid here & having no AC for a couple weeks totally SUX
