I hate phlebotomy because I feel like my life is getting sucked out of me. I have to get my blood drawn every few months. What do I do to cope? I look away & talk to my mom to get the needle off my mind. I get very nervous which is the opposite feeling your suppose to have in order to have a good blood draw. I have had blood draws where blood doesn't even go in the needle.

If i know i have to encounter a shot i get scared. however if it sneeks up on me i really dont get all that nervous about it.

I really want to see if i have lead poisoning, and i'm shure the only way to check is to you guessed it get blood drawn. I'll probably just forget about it and wont ever check to see if I do or not

If it's the pain, ask for a butterfly needle. They are for children, but if an adult requests it they seem to be okay with using them. Basically it only hurts for the initial stab instead of feeling like there's a needle in your arm the whole time.

I used to get them as a kid because I'd have 4 large vials taken monthly when I was little. Now I've grown to be very okay with the pain... because the average needle doesn't hurt that bad :?. Not to mention I like blood tests now, because I find it interesting to watch the dark color of my blood fill up the vials :D.

The only thing that makes me squeamish is getting an IV needle put into my arm. Those are massive needles 8O. I do not like sharp coffee stirrers stabbed into my veins :(.

I don't mind having my blood drawn. It's kind of annoying that they have to poke me three or four times to find a good vein because my veins are really tiny for some reason.

I had to have an IV when I was getting my wisdom teeth removed. It was uncomfortable and it left a big bruise that lasted for a couple of weeks.

I'm a phlebotomist. I love it. I love getting my blood drawn and I love drawing blood. 8O

Nice story for you all. I was in the hospital, hooked up to an IV, and my arm started to get a little stiff. So I walked down the hall to the nearest nurses station, and I began to get very weak and dizzy. I looked at the IV bag, and it had filled completely with my blood

I have to admit when I first seen the title of this thread I figured you were talking about drawing with blood

I don't like getting my blood drawn, either. It gives me this sick feeling.
