I was just thinking back on this last year and one of the highlights was going to Gencon. I am from Indy and I had played D&D back in the 80s, but when I became a Christian my first church was a little intense and someone convinced me to give it up (but please dont bash all Christians because of that)
I had been to a Gencon back when it was at Kenosha, but his was my first one since I started playing D&D again when 5th Gen came out. I went in on Wednesday to get my badge and I walked into the convention center and I felt at home like no where else. It was wonderful, all the awkward nerdy people.
I do get a little overwhelmed by the crowds, but it did not bother me there. I had just started playing a game called Tunnels and Trolls a few weeks before and I had only bought a Saturday pass. I had filled up my day with D&D, but I went to the Flying Buffalo booth to see the T&T guys and one of the writers of one of the great adventures , Bear, was there. It was pretty neat. I went by in a time I had reserved for shopping and watched him run a T&T game and he was a great game master.
I had planned to come back Sunday for family day with the kids, but I thought I would just walk around with them. But then I found out that Bear was running an unscheduled T&T game Sunday, so I talked to my wife and she said the kids were old enough to walk around on their own. So I went back to the FBI booth and told Bear I wanted to play Sunday. There were three of us that he ran a special adventure for. It was so cool.
I cant wait to go back this year. I invited a friend who live in Virginia to come with me this year.
