I don't go to laundromats much anymore, so the opportunity doesn't often come up.

I recall that the main character in "Contact" (the book by Carl Sagan), mentioned doing that, to "try to see the patterns in the chaos." :) Unfortunately, the reporter who saw her doing that used it as evidence that she was nuts. :(

I don't really get the chance to; my mom does the laundry and I'm usually not in the same room when she does it.
Whenever I get the chance, though, it's nice.

Not washing machines, but driers. I find it so fascinating I have sometimes put in extra quarters just to keep watching.

I find myself contemplating the relative velocities of the various articles, wondering how the fabric density influences the shapes the make, trying to correlate the periodicities (is the phase of this sock always 90 degrees to that of that blue shirt? Will they start to synchronize?)

I have a top loader and I only look into it to see why it's going ka-THUNKeta-THUNKeta and dancing around the garage.

I never did as a kid because there were no windows on the machines but now that I have one with a window? Yes, I'll watch for about 10 minutes *shrugs* Not every time....maybe 2/3 of the time.

I may have once....but I don't know why I would when I could be doing something else but....I can see why people may have done that.
