The Axis was responsible for some pretty evil acts. But at least the Germans, unlike the Japanese, write about their crimes in the history books...
As to the OP: That is very heroic. I enjoy reading about stories like this. There were good people in the Axis who had a conscious and went out of their way to save innocent lives. This reminds me of John Rabe (Link) - a Nazi diplomat in Nanjing who went out of his way to save thousands of Chinese civilians from the Japanese Imperial Army. He is often referred to as the Hero of Nanjing . Berlin & the Nazi Party were not happy with him, needless to say. Like Schindler, I guess, he was part of the party because it was necessary for career advancement
